Skullfort Town
Re: Skullfort Town
[The Mound]
Khannie hisses through her teeth when the lightning lashes across her, but thanks to her Death of Corruption mantle the vile magic has less impact on her than it typically would. She feels her strength flag, as if she had just galloped non-stop for an hour, but more than anything else that just makes the unicorn MAD. She points her horn straight at the lich and cuts loose with a blastwave of arcane power.
Verdant flame, shadow magic, and RIGHTEOUS HAMMER! all smash into the lich, causing the horrid undead to recoil. Whether the creature is damaged or not is difficult to tell, but it sure doesn't seem very happy. Given that it's initial plan has been thwarted, it decides to do something else!
Like an octopus aiming to escape, the lich spews out a billowing sickly green cloud of noxious gas that assaults the senses! Hopefully while the heroes are busy dry heaving everywhere the malign spirit can make its escape!

Koshal is just far enough away from the others to give him a few extra seconds. He focuses his magic into his most basic, the telekinesis ability. Normally he uses it to make things heavier or to slam things against the ground. In this case, he only really needs the former effect to pull the skeleton towards the ground and notably slow its attempt to fly elsewhere. Even with the gas confusing him, as long as he can get a hold first he can hold on even when blinded.

Iknika's hammer returns to her hands, but the valiant charge she was planning is stopped in its tracks by the gas. She tries holding her breath, but she does it too late, so she collapses into a coughing fit. The skeleton's plan worked on her, at least.

Khannie has some pretty spectacular magical tricks.
The ability to devour corruption is a fairly great ability, especially when it comes to oogie mages like necromancers. Nearly ALL of their magic is cross corrupting stuff after all, right!
Well.
It turns out this is not a corrupting cloud of vile dark magic.
It just smells bad.
Really, really bad.
And Khannie's sensitive unicorn nose is absolutely not having a fun time.
She's left coughing and gagging, taking a shot at the skeleton with a shadow lance and missing by a wide margin. An innocent tree nearby gets a small hole punched in it.
Which leaves only Koshal to save the day! It turns out the evil ghostly skeleton is ghostly and weightless! Koshal's spell multiplies the skeleton's weight may times over! But zero times a whole bunch is still zero! The spectral skeleton continues wafting away with all the haste of a fart in the wind.

Well, if it isn't physical Koshal goes back to causing little green fireballs to explode in the specter's face. That's really the only thing he can do to something that's in the air and not physical.
And coughing. A bunch of that too.

That's really not good. But a voice in Iknika's ear tells her that it doesn't have to end this way. She is a knight and she someone who will help her be the best knight she can be. The young goblin holds her breath as Jig manifests again. She mounts on him and charges, the spirit-beetle launching themself into the air and trying to grab the necromancer in their pincers - since those aren't entirely tangible either, it will perhaps work.

The green fire bolts seem to be doing something? It's hard to tell when you're blasting a vile spectre whether you're doing any damage or not.
But then!
A great act of heroism!
Riding her spirit beetle with clarity of purpose and righteous indignation Iknika rides down the foul spirit and seizes the ghost in her companion's mandibles! The ghost howls horribly but it seems limited in its ability to fight back in this form.
Khannie, meanwhile, stumbles out of the rotten egg fart cloud, gasping at the relatively clean air beyond its greasy green confines.

"Well, we got him." Iknika looks down at the spirit trapped between Jig's mandibles. "But what do we do now? I don't think Jig can hold onto him for long."

”Just get him to the ground!”
Koshal calls. None of them can do a whole lot when he’s thirty feet in the air.

While Iknika and Jig are restraining the lich Khannie manages to gather enough of her wits to lob a shadow blot skyward. The projectile bursts in a wave of soothing shadows that will feel pleasant enough to the goblin knight but to the corrupt spirit? It seems to stun the apparition long enough that she and Jig should have time to wrestle it to the ground.
Hopefully Koshal has a good idea for a follow up once the villain is earthbound.

Koshal strides over to the knight and her bug and takes up his sword again.
"By the grace of Lady Message, I declare that you have intruded upon this world long enough, spirit. May the guide of the dead take you to your soul's final rest."
There is a soft glow upon Koshal's sword as he steps forward and strikes the spirit on the head with the blade, clearly more ceremonially than with real force.

Re: Skullfort Town

Nothing like a sword filled to the brim with the banishing power of a psychopomp to get rid of an evil spirit.
With a howl that gradually recedes like a dying breath of wind the phantom disperses, fading from the world of the living and passing on to...
Well.
The Nexus has like zillions of afterlives so who knows what actually happens to the guy. Hopefully somewhere where he won't cause any more trouble.
Khannie lets out a long breath, still wheezing a bit from the awful smell of the spirit's gross fart cloud.
"I still don't feel good about killing the guy," she says, clearly rattled by that chain of events. She's pretty firm on not killing villains.

"We didn't really have a choice, did we?" Iknika sounds like she's trying to convince herself as much as the others. She holds onto Jig's saddle to steady herself. "We saw what he did. What he was trying to do."

”Neither one of you should beat yourself up over it. It was my call and my finger that pulled the trigger. If you want to be upset about it I accept it. But it’s not your fault, Iknika.”
Koshal says that very, very seriously. His weapons are delicately returned to their places. He does not appear happy about this turn of events. But he’s definitely not feeling sick, either.
Surely this hasn’t happened before, has it?

"He was gunna kill a buncha people if he got away with it but we stopped him. I probably coulda bound him or something but..."
But that didn't happen.
Since he got shot.
"I guess maybe we should tell someone at Skullfort what happened?" the unicorn suggests.
If someone dies you definitely need to inform the authorities.
