"Delighted to meet you." Rose smiles and extends her hand to Kal. A fairly standard introduction, but if their surroundings were any indication, Fayyaad's friend promised to be an interesting sort of person. Better to play it safe for now.

[Panic! at the Enclave]

Sszinyon's ears twitch slightly and his gaze shifts to the hotbox. What was that sound? He distrusted most electronics.

When Eun asks to be released he immediately does so. "Of course." Presuming she doesn't run off immediately, there's a bit of awkward silence before the young teen speaks up.

"I'm Landon, this is my father, Lord Sszinyon Xar'Cha. Are you here for the festival?"

[Market Street]

"Oh Kobold food. I might like that, being a bit scaley myself." Aly'ithra says, giggling. Behind her the guard scoffs. She rolls her eyes at him. "Oh as if you don't eat as much of the same things."

Down the street, Raril waves to Kal. "Well met. How are you?"

[Weapons Stall]

"Oh you'll be paying up front, if you want something custom like that." The blacksmith declares. "But I've made large one handers before, I can do it again." Though not something she would make just to sell, it wasn't outside her wheelhouse. Enough fighters in the Underdark preferred oversized weapons that she wasn't unfamiliar with it. "What do you want?"

The clerk perks up when Taos says she wants a custom made sword. He moves to stand next to her, leaving Fade to his mistress. "Oh of course. It would take some time, but we can make just about anything."

"That's great to hear!" Taos exclaims. She thinks for a moment, and says "Maybe you could let me see the work as you're doing it? I'll try not to do anything distracting."

[Temple]

Ah, the temple is just as it should be. Spirals, seating levels, family doors -
Well, these little shrines to the demonic handmaidens are...questionable. Hardly the proper relationship between elf and demon, is it? But at the first of the little shrines to the Spider Queen herself, Roth will bite her own hand to draw a bit of blood to scatter. It's the least she can do.

And here, finally, the temple floor and main altar! The heady scent of blood, the echoing chant of their prayers, the mounting divine presence in the air. She can feel the magic bouncing around her head, coiling around her scars... This is all most Impressive, despite the somewhat subdued character of the sacrifices. Still, she can't complain when she didn't even bring one of her own.
Or...no, to get a good sacrifice she would have to leave the enclave, probably go all the way back home. No, better to simply witness, and pray, and keep an eye open for a sign of Lloth's will.

A priestess approaches Roth. She's young, and does not bear the markings of a full priestess, but she is curious and, of course, ambitious.

"Greetings, Sister Szarkai." She said in drow.

"That could be arranged. To be honest the Mistress loves to show off her skills. It all depends on what you want to spend. To get a custom piece made by her of the highest quality would be very costly. Something made by myself or one of the other apprentices would cost less. To enchant something we already have would be even less costly."

...Lord?

Did he just say "Lord"?

Good grief! As if there weren't enough reasons for Eun's heart to be trying to break out through her sternum already! Now she has to worry that there might be potential long-term ramifications for offending the man. Which... makes it fortunate that she didn't pepper spray him, at least.

Although it does sort of tie her hands vis-a-vis continuing this conversation. Walking away really isn't an option at this point. Not if she ever wants to show her face in this town again.

...It might help if she were to answer Landon's question.

"Oh! Sorry. I'm, um... sort of. It's a happy coincidence." She nervously touches her fingers together as she looks between the two of them.

Wait... crap, she forgot to introduce herself. And now it's going to sound super awkward if she does. Maybe she just... shouldn't? It might be better if this potentially-offended noble didn't actually know who she was.

"Are... um... are you here for it?" She asks, hoping to draw out the conversation in a relatively safe direction and not quite realizing until it was too late how that results in a pointless question.

"Of course!" Landon says, smiling and revealing sharply pointed canines. "Father thought it would be a good chance for me to experience Drow culture."

"Unfortunately it pales in comparison to the festivities that are certainly being held at home in Menzoberranzan now" Sszinyon rumbles in complaint. His expression softens as he looks at his son, however. "Though we would not be able to travel openly together there."

Landon laughs and rubs the back of his head. "Yeah, the Nexus is way more accepting about people like me."

"It generally is, yeah." Eun agrees with a little nod, before realizing she actually didn't have any idea what he was talking about. Landon didn't look that odd to her. Not any more so than anyone else around here. If anything, he was more normal, with a skin tone that almost appeared natural and ears that almost looked hum-

...Oh.

"...I mean, um... well, about anything, really." Eun stammers, rolling her hands over each other in an attempt to calm herself down. "My first experience with the Nexus was crashing through a tavern wall and having a panic attack. After which a friendly bird lady took me back inside, bought me a drink, and we got to talk for a while. The whole incident was, um, very much just sort of taken in stride. So I'm sure being born a bit different is, um, also not a particularly big deal."

...She wasn't supposed to actually say that, was she?

"Cool! So, how much money are we talking? I have a few diamonds on me." Taos will take a gem from a compartment attached to her sheath, and show it to the clerk. It's a shiny pink diamond, perfectly cut into a circular shape with the circumference of an £2 coin and proportional width.

"It is dangerous, my son." Sszinyon sighs.

"More dangerous than the Enclave?" Landon questions.

Sszinyon gives him a look, but the boy sticks out his chin, refusing to back down. "At least we understand the dangers here. The Nexus is... chaotic.. at best." The drow says. "However, you must learn to survive it, as I may not always be by your side. Which is why I'm enrolling you in that PREP school, now that you're old enough."

"What?! Really?!" Landon was excited.

"Hmm... I was planning to tell you when we got your blades, but now seemed... appropriate."

"Woo!" The half-drow punched the air. "This is gonna be great! I mean I love Degenberg, but to be in the center of the Nexus itself? This is so exciting!"

Sszinyon chuckles, and a genuine warm smile comes over his face for a moment. Then he looks back to Eun. "Speaking of Degenberg, you should visit. You may fit in well there. It is less chaotic than Inside, except perhaps around the full moon. Most of the villagers are shifters of some sort. Lycanthropes, largely, however there are others."

"There's enough of a market for it for a fancy restaurant, so I'm not sure the scales play into it. I enjoy it, and I don't have scales." 'Sister', imagine hearing that. The Nexus really is a wonderful place.
And that other word, umm, ghost spider? Hmm, not a term she is familiar with. But...not entirely senseless.

"Greetings, priestess. It is an honor to meet you."
Roth answers the priestess in the drow language, though a bit slowly, and with a clipped foreign accent. Clearly not from around Menzoberranzan, this one.
"I am Roth, and you..."

"This, um... was at Trog's, yeah." Eun adds awkwardly, after the conversation takes a hard left into territory she feels like she shouldn't be here for. That was... kind of a private moment, wasn't it? A big deal for Landon and his father, not so much for this stranger they met a few minutes ago.

Oh, here we go. Now she's back to a part of the conversation that actually involves her: an invitation to a village full of lycanthropes.

...Is it too late to go back to the private moment she intruded on?

"Um... w-well, I..." Eun winces. She probably shouldn't decline that invitation out of turn, but she certainly doesn't want to accept it. And the more she struggles to answer, the more agonizing it's going to be.

Maybe she should just stay silent? Nobody gets offended by silence, right?

"Gone." Raril confirms. "Killed by Danube in a coup I helped orchestrate, not long after you... disappeared." He explains. "Her time was over, and Danube chose the time to strike. I took the opportunity to rejoin the family. Help her, go home. Mother was always so... disappointed in me anyway." Raril had run away shortly after graduation from the Sorcere, refusing to follow his mother's bidding.
"Mm, look at you, little brother." She purrs. Linthaer's reflective eyes flash in the dim light. The elf raises her chin up and grins, displaying rows of sharp white teeth. "You've grown tall out from under Matron's shadow." It is difficult to know whether or not the exiled elf means what she says. Her sly, analytical tone, distant and cold, masks all genuine emotion.

"I feared leaving you behind most, you know." Is that a shred of honesty painted upon her face? It's hard to tell, for Linthaer's face is not what it once was. Her splotchy, mismatched skin is only one part of the equation—the structures of her face have settled strangely, as though her eyes, nose, and lips had swum across her flesh.

Like a blurry photograph, the idea of Linthaer is present, but the details simply don't add up to what they used to. "Our siblings could be..." She shrugs, a slight gesture that betrays her loose, lowered shoulders. She's quite comfortable. "Rough on their things. I suppose that's the sweetest way to phrase it, hm?"

Her slight smirk fades. "Where is my sister? Where is Danube?"
"What is blood for, if not for shedding?"

[Weapons Stall]

The blacksmith peers at Fade, her beady eyes narrowed. "Fine, half now, half upon completion. If you clash swords so much, do you want a swordbreaker put in? Or just a straight edged blade on both sides?" A sword breaker was a notch put in at the base of a blade designed to catch an opponent's blade and either disarm them or, as the name says, break the blade. "I can enchant the hells out of it, in order to make it more sturdy for you."

Over with Taos, the clerk picks up a device that looks a little like a digital scale. He asks for the diamond and places it on top, getting a readout of how much it was worth in the standard silver and gold the Drow used. His eyes go a bit wide at the price. "I'd say three of these will cover most of what you need, four if you want to get really fancy with the enchantments."

[Temple of Lolth]

"As normal as we can have under the city's laws." The young priestess says. "Back in Menzoberranzan? We'd be sacrificing slaves. Maybe even a few faerie captured in early raids. But here? They are considered equal to us, in the eyes of the law. To sacrifice them would be murder, and no one wishes to undermine our foothold here by turning the surfacers against us."

[Panic! At the Enclave]

Sszinyon stares at her, unwilling to break the silence, his red eyes glowing like coals as he tries to read her body language.

Landon picks up on things much quicker being, perhaps better socialized than his father. "You don't have to come. It's just a...olive branch?" He thinks he's hit on the right metaphor.

The Drow looks confused and slightly offended. "To what purpose would a branch serve? We have no olive trees in Degenberg."

"No no, Father, it's a peace offering"

"Ah yes. That would be well. I should...makes amends for frightening you earlier." Sszinyon admits with a growl. "Perhaps if not an invitation, what could I offer you in this moment?"

He was offering a boon, a powerful thing from such a well placed Drow with significant influence and strength. It was offered freely, if a little begrudged. Sszinyon was out of practice with his courtesies.

[Raril's Bedroom]

"Danube?!" Raril's voice cracks a little at the thought of summoning the Matron at this hour. It would have to be done, of course. This couldn't be kept secret.

"She'd be in her chambers, at this hour. Resting, or whatever she does in there." Raril wasn't certain a woman like Danube ever got any proper sleep. "Should I send for her?" He asks, concern in his voice. Concern for a sister long lost, reaching out to whoever remained of her kin.

"You don't have to offer me anything." Eun stammers, realizing too late that would probably offend him. "I mean... you just startled me, it's such a little thing you don't really need to worry about it at all really." She gives the drow a nervous little laugh, taking a step back. "...I won't, um, say any more about it if you won't."

"Oh, I didn't know how strong the city's hold was." Roth says, almost apologetic. And of course, with people of all races coming and going, they wouldn't want to make the surfacers - what a word, surfacer - angry.

"Still, for a festival like this, one would think- oh, of course. The non-believers mostly look after their own kind, right? So there's still one source of finer sacrifices." It would be fine to sacrifice other drow, wouldn't it? They're not part of the wider city of Inside...

Eun finds herself alone in a dark alley in a strange and dangerous part of the Nexus, as Landon and Sszinyon slip away into the crowd. She might be able to catch up to them, or get help if she shouts.

[Weapons Stall]

"If you want to be thematic, we can do a thundering and lightning combination." The blacksmith suggests. "Thunder for stunning at close range, lightning strikes to take out longer range foes."

* * *

The clerk verifies the diamonds with his little scale device and grins. "We are in business." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a notebook. "Now, tell me the specifications you want. I know you want to enchant it so it sheds cherry blossoms, would you like any other enchantments on it? How long would you like it to be? What sort of wrappings would you like?" As Taos describes things, he'll start sketching and writing down notes.

[Temple of Lolth]

The priestess smirks. "Ah it would take a lot of planning, but we have already spread to the other city, Riverside, there are tunnels there which we use for farming. Many of our number take residence outside the enclave's walls, as well. There are drow in the police and military forces, beyond those who work directly for the Houses. We expand, though, it has slowed of late."

[Market Street]

"Oh the main square has some great sculpture and views of the palace." Aly'ithra suggests. "And the park is lovely. The fall colors are showing for sure!"

"Sculpture's good, views of the palace... I guess it's designed to be looked at from the ground, right? I've flown over it I think." At a bit of a distance because she's not sure how paranoid they are about flying interlopers, though if there's normal birds perching on it then Jack has likely tried to get closer when she's bird-shaped.

Eun finds herself alone in a dark alley in a strange and dangerous part of the Nexus, as Landon and Sszinyon slip away into the crowd. She might be able to catch up to them, or get help if she shouts.

...But that would mean going through the socially-awkward nightmare of asking for directions, in a city already full of dubiously-trustworthy people. Versus being lost in said city.

Social activity...

...or aimless wandering.

Socialization.

Potential mugging.

...

It's a harder decision than it sounds like it'd have to be. A harder and more time-consuming decision. By the time she's worked up the nerve to ask Sszinyon for directions, he's... probably already gone.

Okay. Okay. It's all right. She's still a tech whiz. All she needs to do is set herself up with some other means of navigation. Maybe a GPS?

She reaches into her hotbox for such a device, quickly finding the recipe, and-
No signal. Check your internet connection.
Oh. Right. Delmah Phor.

Not to mention being off-world. There's no earthly satellites for her to connect to anyway.

Eun swears under her breath and starts walking down the street. Maybe she'll luck out and find her way back to the main square. It's not too hard to find the enclave's gates from there.
Who're you? ...Don't matter.

Want some rye? Course ya do!

[Market Street]

Perhaps surprisingly, Jack might've gotten really close to the palace from the sky. Trying to keep every bird or beast out is impossible. There's wards, but due to her nature as a bird, she would've slipped right past them.

"Oh I've seen it from the sky too! Not as impressive, though, no. The temple's really something to look at, but I don't like to go inside."

[Panic! at the Enclave]

Eun will find herself walking between large, vertical houses, set behind high walls. Some were for minor noble families, or merchants with great wealth. Sigils sculpted in stone declared the alliances of most, decorated in shimmering faerie fire. A noblewoman passes, seated on a riding lizard, while guards escort her. She doesn't even look at Eun, and the guards look down at her. They all wore new armor and shining blades, but were not being openly hostile. Mostly they expected the 'Surfacer' to stay out of their way.

On this street, running east and west if Eun can tell, there's a T junction, with a road running south. She can go forward or back or turn?
