That's practically an adult in the opinion of nine out of ten fourteen year olds.
Anyway!
Khannie does a teen girl eye-roll and ugh combo. "Magic isn't dumb just because you don't know how it works. And it doesn't break any laws! Different things have different rules. The rules for dreams and stories and getting people to do what you want and math are all different rules. YOU'RE just upset because chemistry rules and dream rules aren't the same. You know one of those but not the other and you get mad 'cuz the stuff you DO know doesn't apply. It's like grandmas who get mad at their phone because they don't want to learn how to use it."
Oh no.
Khannie just compared Jade to phone Luddites.
"So now I've got this weird dream-fox magic now TOO because you didn't want to learn. Well fine. I'll figure it all out by myself then since you think it's dumb and don't want to bother. It fills in a hole in my illusions that shadows aren't any good for, anyway."
A very Khannie response. If Khannie is given a new tool she will master it. Her drive to be the very best, like no one ever was, has never dimmed or flickered in all her short life thus far.
Where the shadows respond to whispers the dreams merely respond to dreaming. Trying to dream while you're awake is definitely a weird sensation but it's really quite a bit like just imagining and letting yourself slip into that imagination. Khannie reaches deeper and the dream spreads further through her illusionary form as a fourth silvery furred fox tail sprouts, its tip dusted in dull crimson.
This time she tries something that her shadow illusions are terrible at, focusing as her dream manifests around them. From the outside looking in the area around the campfire will suddenly look hazy and indistinct. But from the INSIDE it looks quite real! The fire is tall and blazing, a great big bonfire! Scarecrows hung with garlands and husks surround the flames. Shapes dance in the shadows, movements just out of sight. From the flames ghoulish faces leer, like the bright orange fire had been caved as a jack o lantern.
The general spooky vibe has really been enhanced!
"See?" Khannie says, smiling broadly at the works she has wrought. "This stuff's EASY. You just have to actually TRY instead of complaining about it. You really need to learn how to control it so you don't accidentally give more people tails."

"A dream tells me that that might happen. Or it might just hover in place. Or turn into a bird and fly away. Or refuse to leave my hand." She picks up the rock and drops it again. "If the world doesn't behave rationally, predictably, then there's no point in understanding anything because this could be the time it doesn't work that way."
Jade's paying more attention to the philosophical debate than to Khannie's increasing foxiness. Jason, on the other hand, is trying to get both of their attention, with little success.

The second time Jade drops the rock Khannie is already cementing a spell formula in her mind and executing it as Jade releases her grasp.
Which means the rock doesn't fall. It just... sits there. Right where it is. And just looking at Khannie it's clear that she's concentrating on it.
"I think you're looking at it all wrong. You think nothing's supporting the rock but there IS. So this is mage hand, right? It's a really simple transmutation for wizards who are just learning wizardry like I am. It does a couple different things but the IMPORTANT thing is that transmutes earth-element into air-element. So stuff that's heavy gets more buoyant, right? Then you can scoot it around."
By way of demonstration Khannie scoots the rock slowly through the air.
"Wizardry has got rules. It's like writing a program or a math equation. You hold it in your mind and then run it and it does its thing. I think maybe wizardry would make more sense to you since it's more like the things you know? But sorcery is WAY different since it isn't about laws and equations, its about convincing the world to act the way you want it to."
Khannie allows the spell to end which in turn allows the rock to drop to the earth like it would normally.
"None of this stuff just happens for no reason. Even the dream magic has reasons. Something happens because someone's dreaming it up. It's no different than the rock not falling because someone else grabbed it when you let go."
And then to help the point along?
The surrounding dream shifts again, but subtly. There are several NEW stones that are hovering a few feet off the ground. If Jade tries grabbing one of those it will move when she touches it. She'll feel the hard, cold surface under her fingers, but there isn't actually any substance to it. If she really squeezed her hand her fingers would pass right through the stone. As Khannie continues to manipulate the dreamscape tail number five grows in while the hair on her head has turned stark white fading slowly to crimson at the tips. It looks longer and more wild than it did previously for sure. The tips of her silvery furred fox ears appears tinged with red as well.
"The dream stuff isn't really real, though. Not like real real. It's just like... pulling a day-dream out where everyone else can see it, too. But a daydream that can burn things sometimes I guess?" Khannie says, looking thoughtful. "Oooh that's a good question. How come you can do the foxfire but not OTHER stuff? What's different about that?"

She comes up rapdily, spluttering, sending a spray of water with her. She coughs, and shakes her head, flinging more droplets of water around while wiping at her eyes. "I fucking knew it! You bitch! I hate you." She flips Eliseo off with both fingers. Despite this, it's clear she's not actually that mad. She had to admit, it was funny. "I'll get you back for this, c'mere." Atsede snips the pair of scissors she has for her costume towards the boy mock-threateningly.

Khannie opens her mouth to retort but then Jason steps up and does a pretty good job of getting her attention.

Oh. Yeah. She can feel way more tails back there. Khannie cranes her neck and YEP! Sure enough. A whole mess of tails. The fur on them seems weirdly wispy. Which of course encourages Khannie to wave her hand at it, causing it to swirl like stubbornly coherent mist. "Umm..."
Are they just illusions?
This of course requires some experimentation. She grabs ones of them and YANKS and ooww yeah they're still real. Or... real enough?
She pulls a lock of her hair into a view, crossing her eyes a bit to look at it. "Okay yeah I think using the fox magic more was definitely doing something. Like its growing?"
Which should concern her but now that she's thought about it a bit?
Khannie sighs. "It isn't a big deal. This human body's just an illusion, anyway. A really fancy one, but still just an illusion. I think the fox magic is just messing with my human-girl disguise which... I dunno... it sucks but it's probably kind of stupid to be mad about something that isn't even real getting messed up."
Another sigh as she leans back on the bench, supporting herself with her hands splayed out on the smooth wood. "I can probably figure out how to fix the changes. It's just another sorta magic to learn how to use. I've been bopped with a bunch."
At least Fortuna's chaos magic never stuck.

Why can't Jade have a normal life?
Well, it all started because Libra is weird.
As it happens Khannie also exists thanks to Libra being weird.
It's something they have in common.
"It's probably because I've got magic already? Maybe?" Khannie ventures, turning back to the others. "It's kinda hard to guess how different sorts of magic are going to work together since they've all got different rules. But it's kinda fun, too! There are always surprises but once you've got 'em figured out you know all the neat tricks."
Neat tricks like two more tails sprouting at once! Khannie's eyes have turned a foxy yellow-brown ringed with black skin akin to any normal fox. Less normal is the fine crimson fur framing the corners of her eyes. That's seven tails so far and it isn't slowing down.
"I guess... sorry for biting you, okay? Being human, even if it's pretend, it's really important to me. And my human disguise getting all foxed up is... lame. But I guess this should just encourage me to bug my dad more about finding a way to make me a human for real."
Why can't Jade have a normal life?

Anastasia laughs and claps her hands as Iknika springs up from the tub, apple between her jaws. "Wow! You're really good at this!" Her delight probably doesn't ease Atsede's disappointment at failing to beat the goblin to it - but fortunately, Eliseo is more than happy to help the changeling get her attention.
"El-!" Anastasia realizes what he's about to do just a second too late and she gasps, eyes like saucers. She only starts to switch uneasily from shock to laughter once Atsede starts playfully menacing her boyfriend with bladed implements. "H-hey, careful! Don't snip anything off that's actually important!"

Really, I put you in danger. I mean, nothing serious happened (although I might still need to talk with your parents if we can't fix this), but we didn't know for a fact that it wouldn't hurt you."

She just makes a goofy foxy sneezing sound.
"That shoulda..."
Khannie closes her eyes and focuses. She just needs to shed her illusion and-

"Something's wrong I can't scrub it," Khannie says, worry creeping into her voice as tail number eight grows into place. That should have worked. Something's messing with her illusion disguise! That... dream magic or whatever it is has gotten all tangled up in the mess of other magic that suffuses Khannie and it's making a mess. Also that silvery fox fur is spreading! "My illusion is setting like cement I can't get it off!"

Khannie is trying really hard not to panic over the fact that she is, apparently, turning into some weird magical fox thing and-!

What is... what is going ON? It's like there's this whole mess of overlapping memories that are grinding against each other like broken glass. And half of them are just kind of ablating away and-
"FORTUNA you JERK!" Khannie snarls at the night sky. "You messed with me I KNOW IT! Aaaugh my teeth were itching I shoulda known you were up to something you dump smirky snake!" Oh hey that's a name Jade probably remembers.
"What was even the POINT of that just to... to make things awkward with Kol and Mary? Did you think that was FUNNY!?"
Slander! Clearly someone as magnanimous and ravishingly beautiful as Fortuna did something like that purely for good and wholesome and selfless and helpful reasons! And also because it was just so funny. If only you could have seen your face when your locker was pulled open! Priceless!

With silvery fur and stripes and slashes of white. With nine tails with tips tinged in crimson. With red-stained paws and feet. With a great white mane of hair streaked with red as if by blood. Her fur and hair curl like mist, wisps and streamers wafting off it and fading to nothing. She pats her (thankfully still thumb-bearing!) paws over her face, eyes wide and chest absolutely still. In spite of everything, perhaps fortunately, she's still wearing her clothing and watch. Her tails just clip right through the clothes as if they weren't there.
She stands there, breathlessly and silently, for a few seconds.
Then she screams.
Khannie is trying really hard not to panic over the fact that she is, apparently, turning into some weird magical fox thing and-!
What.
What.
What is... what is going ON? It's like there's this whole mess of overlapping memories that are grinding against each other like broken glass. And half of them are just kind of ablating away and-
"FORTUNA you JERK!" Khannie snarls at the night sky. "You messed with me I KNOW IT! Aaaugh my teeth were itching I shoulda known you were up to something you dump smirky snake!" Oh hey that's a name Jade probably remembers.
"What was even the POINT of that just to... to make things awkward with Kol and Mary? Did you think that was FUNNY!?"
Slander! Clearly someone as magnanimous and ravishingly beautiful as Fortuna did something like that purely for good and wholesome and selfless and helpful reasons! And also because it was just so funny. If only you could have seen your face when your locker was pulled open! Priceless!
"Uuuuuuuggggh!" comes Khannie's frustrated groan at the not-quite-audible narrator as she pulls her increasingly paw-like hands down her face. "That was an analogy not, like, literally concrete. "And she was creating weird chaos creatures that did weird stuff to everything they touched."
The twins look back at Khannie. "What did she do to you? Are you all right?" Neither of them know much about Pokemon. They definitely don't recognize that Khannie is one. The only pokemon they would surely recognize is pikachu.

It takes Khannie a moment to calm down. The frustration and bitter resentment just felt overwhelming there and making awful yowling screaming noises about it seemed like the best plan at the time. Her brain feels like a big swirly bowl of mush in desperate need of cleaning now that a heap of memories manifested by chaos magic are scattered all over the place like glitter. She puts a paw on the side of her head and gives it a shake, trying to jog some sense back into her head.

Everything is still where it's supposed to be?
But recovering from a mind-whammy is still a very NOT FUN experience.
At the question of how she's feeling she opens her mouth and says-
"(Zoroark noises.)"
If Jade's understanding of fox-talk extends to fox-like supernatural monster things then that probably came off as 'I'm fine' with a sharp uptick in surprise and shock at the end, an emotion easily broadcast by Khannie's eyes going wide and her paws going to her mouth. She freezes for a moment, panic clear in her expression.
Don't panic.
Don't be dumb.
Your magic is still all right where you left it. Just... mixed up with this dream stuff. You don't have the right sorta mouth for talking right now just... relax. You've got other ways to make sounds. Calm down. Think.
Khannie slowly lowers her paws and bobs her head, like she's listening to a beat in her own mind, opening and closing her mouth like she's trying to form words. And after a few seconds of this she layers a ghost-sound tied to her human voice.
"I'm okay. I just need a second? Fortuna made a mess of things for some dumb joke," Khannie says, her voice not really matching her mouth movement perfectly, as if it were a bad dub. She sits back on the bench, her mess of tails fanning out behind her. "Haha, an illusion fox. What else, right? Ugh, this is so dumb."
At that buries her face in her paws. When she continues speaking her voice doesn't sound muffled by that fact at all.
"I can... probably? Still do my human disguise? Hopefully without all the tails."
Hopefully. She can still feel the shadows tug at her influence. She can still feel the dream slumbering below reality. And now she can feel the zoroark's natural illusions bristling at the tips of her claws. A three-fold lie. Khannie just sits there for a moment, feeling out the extent of her magic. Everything's still there. Her memories are... probably... fine?
"The dragon thing was some kinda joke from Fortuna. I think your fox magic broke it? Or she broke it. Or... I dunno something. I (ugh this is such a dumb story) I met this thing last year that granted wishes, right? And I wasn't human, I was a pokemon. But I'm supposed to be human. So that's what I wished for but it was one of those wishes with side effects. I had to figure out how to break the contract or it woulda killed me. Wish broke, stopped being human, but Fortuna thought it would be funny if I was a dragon instead or... I dunno I have no idea what qualifies as a good joke to her. So your fox magic unwound that and now it's back to pokemon again but a different sort than before?"
She glances up, yellow eyes darting between the twins.

Khannie looks distant for a few seconds, staring into the campfire as the dreamscape she had made dissolves around them, returning them to the regular old benches around the regular old campfire. "Did I? Sorry, my head's all muddled up."
There's just too much emotion and confusion swirling around in there.
The look of bewilderment and resentment and despair quickly gives way to an expression of stoic determination as she sits up a little straighter, her paws clenching into fists. "Y'know what I'm not gunna sit here moping over this dumb mess. It's Spooktober tonight's supposed to be fun and I'm gunna have fun not matter what. Weirdness isn't gunna stop me!"
She draws in the shadows around her, wrapping herself in darkness and dusk like silk. And with a nudge and a suggestion they resolve into the shape of a regular old human girl with none of the marks or weird hair color or tails or ears or ANYTHING that have been plaguing her since her wish was unraveled. Khannie's vision of who she's supposed to be is a powerful one and that makes for an equally powerful illusion. With absolute determination she scoops up her Mothra costume and begins donning it once more.
In a defiant gesture she pulls on her doofy moth monster hat, blows a defiant raspberry at the sky, and stomps off toward the snack table!
"Do you two like Spooktober games?" she asks of the twins, glancing back over her shoulder. With the girl-illusion up syncing her words with her lips is WAY easier. "We've got the apple bobbing bucket but that's a water thing and-"
She narrows her eyes at the commotion at said bucket.
"-it looks like those kids are trying to murder each other over it?"
Considering how wet one of them is Khannie has a pretty solid idea of what transpired.

Well.. but that's the wrong intro: because Caroline is dressed in a bright yellow T-Shirt, blue cargo-shorts, a red baseball cap, and wearing a blue backpack with a few odd-looking patches sewn on.
She looks fairly ridiculous.
But the look makes sense because of the small collection of children from the temple school dressed in Pokemon costumes of varying quality that she is escorting.
We have arrived, children. You may go get snacks and play at the games, but behave or I will put you in a pokeball!
With mock screams, the children scatter: leaving Caroline back to looking fairly ridiculous and now by herself. She looks around to see who else is around that she might know.

Khannie smiles at the siblings bantering back and forth. It's kind of cool seeing people out of costume and just getting to see them being... people. It's really humanizing.

Oh! And there's... umm... oh! "Hi Caroline! It's really cool some people from the temple made it! This is definitely the best Spooktober ever."
Easy.
Hands down.

"Dunno what you mean, Iknika, we got plenty of water to clean up right here!" The changeling was only too aware of said water, given her recent dunking. She looked between Eliseo and Anastasia. "Nothing too important? Well he only needs one ear, right?" She joked, snipping a few more times before finally putting the scissors away. "You watch your back though nerd," she added, wiping more dripping water from her face, "or I'll set Strawberry on you.". She mimed gnashing teeth.

Caroline watches intently, wondering exactly how the game actually goes. Between this and the constant pinging from the tracking spell she put on the kids, she is sufficiently destracted to not be doing so well recognizing people herself. She sniffs at one of the disguised donuts and resolves to take Khannie to a good donut shop, as the sample she chose smells to her like a week old selection from a convenience store.

The kits are ambling around gawking at all the people and their costumes. As is always the case in a coordinated group like there, there is a mix of children who are practically walking pokedexes, and others who are not entirely certain what it is they are dressed as and know nothing whatsoever about the creatures.
Their newfound kaiju-dressed friends provide an amazing opportunity for a completely unrelated group of enthusiasts to arise: and so now the monster-movie fandom and the pokemon fandom have begun to drift apart, leaving only a few misfits who aren't that keen on either.
