The djinn shrugs in reply to Jace's not really a boast but whatever.

"Head back the way you came. You'll find a locked door that heads to the north. The tool you're looking for is in there," the djinn replies.

But will there be more enemies in there?

Maybe not!

So far this dungeon has been pretty mild, as far as dungeons go.

But!

That can be okay!

Does Jace really need a bunch of really horrible danger on this outing? Probably not. Though maybe it's still good that it got him out and about. He needs to get out of the house more after all.

"Well, sounds easy enough."
Jace shrugs, picks up the lamp, and heads back to use that key.

So far things HAVE been pretty mild. One enemy, no particularly threatening curses and such. Fortuna did seem to promise no transformations which given his and Khannie's history he'll take. He won't say it out loud and jinx it but right now Fortuna seems to be playing nice.

It sure SOUNDS easy, but WILL IT BE?!

...

Yeah, actually.

The key fits into the slot easily enough and the chains fall away, allowing Jace to shove the door open. Beyond is a room with a large statue of the Djinn King of Thursday! He appears to be a huge (cow? dog?) person with curling horns and great golden wings with burning orange pinions! Someone must have gone to a lot of trouble to make it so the 'feathers' are actually on fire.

In one hand the statue holds the fist-like mace with two fingers extended in a V. In the other hand the statue holds a representation of the planet Jupiter.

Fancy.

Hmmm. This seems to be a big room alright. Jace is mildly impressed.
He would guess cow-person if there's horns. Most dogs don't have horns. Except houndoom. And Sirius.

Jace looks around for any other doors past the statue.
"So, is there a secret door out of here or is it hidden in one of the things it's holding?" Jace asks the djinn as he goes up to the statue and inspects it.

Hellhoundy things usually have horns. And djinn are often a mix of a bunch of different animal and human traits. Sometimes they even have faces on their butts. Other times they're Literally Just A Dog that's black on the right side and white on the left side.

It doesn't look like there are any other secret doors. At least none that are immediately obvious.

Inspecting the statue up close reveals that's it's mostly made of a high-copper bronze, giving it a reddish hue. The wings are more golden. It is REALLY BIG! And it also has huge rubies for eyes. The sorts of eyes that would entice the party rogue to pry them out if Jace had a party rogue with him right now.

The mace is also huge.

Big enough for the statue to hold.

Which is really big!

The djinn doesn't answer Jace's question.

Probably because it got him to where Jace had wanted and then immediately bailed.

"Hmmm."

Jace goes over and knocks on the statue. Then he casts his magical sight over the statue. Maybe there's a magical trip somewhere?

HMMM!

Knocking on the statue reveals that it is hollow.

Maybe because a statue made of solid bronze this big would be absurdly heavy?

That's probably it.

Magical sight, however, reveals something more interesting.

There are two magical things about the statue. First is the effect of supplying flames the wings. But that's a pretty minor evocation effect. Definitely not what Jace is looking for. The OTHER magical thing is a suspiciously regular sized mace shaped object INSIDE the statue. If Jace begins searching around near the hidden mace he'll soon find a hidden release latch disguised as one of the innumerable horns all over the djinn king's body.

Pulling on the horn doesn't do anything. But TWISTING it causes it to click and the compartment to swing open.

And within?

The artifact that Jace seeks!

A weapon to poke the very gods in the eye.

What a twist!

Opening the hatch, that is. Jace reaches in and takes the poking stick.

"Um. Mission accomplished, Fortuna?" he says out loud.
This seems bizarrely tame for Fortuna. A few pieces of loot and a single fight. He's honestly shocked.

Without any fanfare to speak of, Jace is no longer in the dungeon.

Huh.

This DOES seem really tame for Fortuna.

It's almost like she was trying to be genuinely helpful instead of a nuisance.

...wait.

Maybe this was a distraction.

Maybe something incredibly embarrassing and weird happened back at home!
