Welcome to my little corner of the character directory! Here I'll be hopefully remembering to write up various profiles on the characters I play in the Nexus, and provide some easily-referenceable context for those new and returning.

Main Cast

Blanche Turath: Catgirl, markswoman and junior adjutant at VIGIL, Blanche is an experienced former soldier and combat medic with an acerbic, professional demeanor and lingering trauma from past service. Daughter of Reinholdt Terenti and Caelynn Turath, Lord Magtok's stepdaughter.

May Bellamy: Transgender kumiho with an anxious but affectionate disposition and a passion for adventure, one of the two personalities that compose Anastasia. Currently adopted by Kitsuki Tsukada and Obriane Bellamy, coming to terms with a series of traumatic events while finishing high school. In a relationship with Eliseo Rizzo.

Scarlet Bellamy: Transgender kumiho with a stubborn and cocky demeanor and a practical side to her, one of the two personalities that compose Anastasia. Currently adopted by Kitsuki Tsukada and Obriane Bellamy, working to figure out how to cohabitate with May while grappling with her own personhood.

Calanthe Himori: Prim, proper and calculating bunnygirl, grey witch and full-time nanny to the Frescot family. Protective and compassionate, but with a rather transactive views towards life. Has a deep affinity towards insects, decomposers and fungi.

Dulcinea Antoninus Hortensis: A frail transgender half-elf and co-captain of the Riverside Community High School cheerleader squad. Prideful, affectionate and prone to dramatics, walks with a cane. Holds grudges and tends to develop convoluted schemes and machinations to get her way. In a relationship with Reilana Tamawhetu, ex-girlfriend of Atsede Nnadi.

Supporting Roles

Cantata Nieszesliwa: Intersex woman and professional spy, saboteur and assassin working for MERC. Flirtatious and cocksure, with empathic abilities that grant her particular insight and influence towards those around her. Mute, communicates through sign language. Currently married to Fettina.

Caelynn Godlark: Friendly and compassionate catgirl in her 40s, diligent and easygoing. Physician and general practitioner running the White Rose Health Clinic in Eastside. Formerly Turath, currently married to Lord Magtok.

Fidelia Stahl: Quiet, stoic and reserved human knife-fighter and steel genasi. Junior member of VIGIL who grew up as a street urchin in Skyside, currently taking lessons with Cessie Mithar to master her genasi powers. Squire and girlfriend of Jenette d'Aubigny/St. Lazarus.

Leis Oliveira: Cheery and extroverted young tiefling woman and office accountant for MERC with an inquisitive streak and a good head for numbers. A voracious reader with a particular interest in the magical arts, tends to be overly trusting and falls for other easily.

Ciara Nye'tli: Twenty-something delinquent half-elf Thanksmas warlock with pink hair and a catlike smile. Irrepressible flirt with a penchant for chaos, always faintly smells of peppermint. Dyslexic and impulsive.

Description
Blanche is a fair-skinned woman of average height in her mid-to-late twenties, with bubblegum-pink eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair. While muscular, Blanche is built more for endurance than strength, broad shoulders and flared hips accentuating a lean physique that reflects a hardy nature and military background - as well as a smattering of scars to prove it.

When in the field, Blanche wears a sturdy white bodysuit with black hexagonal paneling and pink ceramic plating. She often carries a medic's satchel slung across her shoulder and tends to obscure her armor with a baggy, deep olive green army jacket, well-worn and clearly treasured.

In more casual settings, the catgirl favors simple t-shirts, cargo pants and jeans, often wearing her beloved jacket in addition. Although she occasionally wears makeup, Blanche does not tend to wear jewelry, and will only dress formally when absolutely necessary - style and fashion are a mystery to her, and she often finds herself entirely unsure how to handle such matters.

Personality
Steadfast and professional, Blanche seem rather stern and standoffish, especially in matters of work. She has a blunt and acerbic manner of speaking and can sometimes come across as abrasive - an impression not helped by a hotheaded nature and tendency towards defiance and bossiness when confronted.

This does not mean that Blanche is a singularly cold figure, however. While slow to trust, she latches on quickly to those she sees as under her charge, and is fiercely protective towards them; hurt someone close to her, and she will tear you to shreds. Friends and allies will also find that she goes great lengths to help them, often ignoring her own personal health and wellbeing in the process.

Blanche is a woman with tightly held principles, and highly prizes independence and personal capability. She is not, however, cruel and unsympathetic - Blanche despises exploitation of any form, and believes strongly that those who can fend for themselves have a duty to protect those who cannot. She is particularly hostile to breaches of military conduct in this area, mainly the killing of prisoners and noncombatants.

Although she presents a rather fierce and confident demeanor, Blanche can in truth prove rather insecure. She is incredibly hard on herself and is terrified of burdening others, a fear only exacerbated by the scars of post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, she tends to struggle with socialization, often feeling incredibly awkward and ill-equipped around crowds of strangers when not on the job.

Equipment
Stalker-Pattern Mimetic Armor - The bodysuit Blanche wears in combat is a style of advanced body armor, initially issued to her during her service in Brightlance. The material is thicker and sturdier than modern combat fatigues, designed to provide a modicum of protection against physical trauma, and reinforced with ablative plating to more effectively resist a range of weaponry from cutting blades and blunt-force impacts to kinetic and energy-based firearms.

Blanche's armor has been modified in various ways over the years, with its original black and yellow color scheme replaced with patterns of white and pink. Several unarmored sections have been augmented with a hexagonal black paneling that refracts light, blurring the wearer into the background. While the effect is far from active camouflage, the distortion still makes a target harder to hit accurately - especially at distance.

M110 Starfinder - In combat Blanche usually carries a semi-automatic rifle, modified for use as a designated marksman and sniper rifle and outfitted with a scope and suppressor. It has a fairly quick rate of fire and can be used in closer engagements, but shines at long range. In addition, the weapon is outfitted with advanced laser sight and rangefinder, with limited material spectrometry capabilities to determine whether the next shot is capable of penetrating a target area.

Misriah Defender - Blanche very rarely goes anywhere without her trusty and long-treasured sidearm, a semi-automatic pistol chambered to best penetrate body armor at close range. It has been heavily modified, with an electric ammo display and a holographic sight that can also serve as a heat sight. In addition, the pistol shares a similar laser sight with Blanche's rifle.

Medical Satchel - When in the field Blanche carries a medical satchel filled with various mundane supplies to stop bleeding, sew wounds and splint broken limbs. She also carries various painkillers and advanced medical drugs, as well as occasionally more magical means such as health potions.

Abilities
Feline Ancestry - Blanche's eyesight is keener than the average humans, and she is capable of seeing in the dark to a limited degree. She also has a stronger sense of balance thanks in part to her tail, and her reflexes are generally sharper. While Blanche would normally have a much finer sense of hearing thanks to her feline ears, much of the benefit they would provide her over humans her has been dulled from frequent exposure to firearms.

Hair Trigger - Blanche has rather quick combat reflexes, and diving to dodge gunfire or draw and aim her weapon is an almost instinctual motion for her at this point. However, constant service has left its indelible mark; Blanche can be somewhat twitchy and is easily startled into fight-or-flight, especially by loud and sudden noises.

Misc notes
Blanche was heavily scarred by her actions in the Ascendancy, and the trauma of what she had done still haunts her many years later. The scent of burning meat can trigger auditory hallucinations, and feeling sand beneath her clothes can sometimes cause Blanche to experience flashbacks.

Blanche is the daughter of Reinholdt Terenti, although she only learned who her father was upon arriving at the Nexus. The two have an awkward but ultimately friendly relationship, and although she feels generally unsure of how to regard him she is happy to have him in her life. The sentiment is similar to her stepfather, Magtok.

Description
Anastasia is a somewhat petite figure, with a slender frame and some curves. Expressive brows and a button nose mark out a heart-shaped face with warm skin, rosy cheeks and soft lips quirked into a timid smile. Her vibrant blue eyes contrast with the fiery hues of her red-orange hair. Two vulpine tails that extend from the base of the spine. Her canines are also longer than average, lending her smile a fanged appearance.

Anastasia tends to dress somewhat casually and favors light colors and gentle tones. She is particularly fond of pale blues, whites and pinks and tends to wear dresses and skirts, especially in the summer. Ana also prefers to keep her hair long and usually ties it back into a loose braid with a bright blue ribbon, a fond keepsake from her original parents that matches the shade of her eyes.

Personality
Anastasia is generally a rather skittish and introverted young woman, with a tendency to worry or overthink things. However, nervous first impressions bely a rather active and eager mind; Ana is intensely curious, with a spark of quiet joy and mischief. She is fond of storybook tales and has a soft spot for legends and accounts of adventurers, having grown up listening to many from her original parents.

Anastasia craves comfort, connection and closeness from others - as such, she tends to be rather soft-hearted and develops affections and sympathies for others quickly. Ana is also a bit of a romantic, tending to express herself through adoring words and heartfelt gestures of affection. She initially trusts what others say easily, though this does not stop her from having anxieties and doubts over someone's true feelings towards her.

There are a few quirks about the young kitsune that tend come to light upon closer familiarity. She struggles at times with overstimulation, finding herself often urgently needing to break away in loud, boisterous and claustrophobic scenarios. Angry screaming and yelling also tends to overwhelm her and cause her to similarly shut down.

Binding Bracelet - Anastasia is never seen without a chunky bracelet of ivory and brass on her left wrist, even in her sleep. The center bears a large amethyst gem produced by a dragon that is toxic to spirits and causes discomfort to fey and immortal beings upon contact. The bracelet was given to Ana by the Fourth Tower to keep her cannibalistic hunger in check, but weakens her fey abilities. In addition, she can now sate her cravings by feeding upon an animal each month, but must be the one to make the kill.

Haz'Wehrs Family Sword - One of Anastasia's most treasured possessions is a remarkably well-maintained longsword, plated in silver with a crossguard hilt and an inscription in a flowing foreign script above the leather-wrapped ricasso. While it has no magical properties, the blade is of incredibly sentimental value - it once belonged to Anastasia's father, and was passed down the his family line over successive generations. Now, it is the only thing she has left of him.

Acoustic Guitar - A simple acoustic guitar, with mahogany backing and a cedar front. Although clearly well-used and treasured, Anastasia doesn't tend to play as often anymore, already fairly busy with other extracurriculars.

Lockpicks - Anastasia tends to carry a set of lockpicks with her wherever she goes and is surprisingly adept with them. She mainly uses them to show off for her friends, getting them into places they otherwise shouldn't be and exploring the many tunnels and abandoned buildings in Riverside.

Promise Ring - A silver ring with a flowing water motif of fine make, inset with a single amethyst at the center. This ring was gifted to her by Eliseo Rizzo and symbolizes a vow to marry once they're of age to do so.

Abilities
Daughter of the Fox Fey - Anastasia's nature as a kitsune gives her various abilities. She can shift into a two-tailed fox form, and her nails lengthen and sharpen into honed claws when distressed. In addition, the laws of reality are weak for fey beings like her... and sometimes, small things seem to go Ana's way against all odds. Gravity is weak and sometimes seems absent, eyes miss her in a crowd.

The Hungry Shell - Anastasia is a kumiho and cannot naturally generate new tails from life experiences like most kitsune. Instead she is haunted by a cannibalistic hunger to consume manifestations of fellow fey in the material world, stealing the concepts associated with them to manifest new tails. While it can be kept at bay with the livers of ordinary humans, the effect lasts longer when she has made the kill herself, and only results in a new tail if the victim is a changeling or otherwise feytouched. The hunger is more than psychological - if not sated, she will eventually starve.

Cthonic Nature - As a kumiho, Anastasia belongs to a class of fey known as psychopomps, which interact with the fey underworld and bad dreams. She is capable of lucid dreaming and dreamwalking, and can enter and exit the underworld through the dreams of others. However, this connection to the underworld renders her infertile.

Quick Fingers - Anastasia is rather skilled with her hands and can demonstrates a surprising degree of finesse and fine motor control. She is adept at lockpicking and playing the guitar.

Misc. Notes
Anastasia is entering her senior year at Riverside Community High School and has a moderately healthy social life. She is a member of the cheer squad and plays on the girl's soccer team. She also practices HEMA, and is being tutored by Wenomir to effectively use her father's sword.

The essence of every fey is built around a series of core concepts that embody them, and each of a kitsune's tails represent one they have inherited or acquired. Ana's "birth" concept is Romance, literary and romantic. She has also acquired the concept of Adventure from the murder in Moth Park.

Anastasia experiences post-traumatic stress after various events in Moth Park. The scent and taste of blood is upsetting for her, and she tends to avoid the site. She has become jumpy about strangers touching her shoulders, startles easily and often has disturbed sleep. She is also prone to dissociation.

Description
Although a fairly petite in stature, Cantata exudes a sense of confidence that tends to make others forget this until they are in close proximity to her. She is fair-skinned, with rich brown hair and amber eyes that shine with a sense of mystery and intrigue. While rather curvaceous, Cantata's eye-catching frame is stronger than it appears. She exercises often and is surprisingly flexible, with a fair amount of core strength.

Cantata has a taste for the finer things, and prefers clothing that looks nice and accentuates her form. She enjoys wearing long dresses and pretty if understated jewelry, and puts a lot of time into her appearance - her makeup is almost always flawless, and her nails are delicately maintained. While on the job or in casual settings, Cantata favors nice blouses and pants that look good and respectable while also providing a nice range of motion. her attire is usually made up of blues, blacks and silvers

Although her skin is otherwise pretty flawless, Cantata has a rather distinctive if somewhat faded scar running across the front of her neck, as if someone had once tried to slash her throat open.

Personality
Flirtatious and cocksure, Cantata is someone who both looks good and knows it. She takes a lot of pride in her abilities in addition to her appearance. This can lead to her being a bit of a gambler, confident in her abilities to pull something off or adapt should she fail - as such, although she isn't that big of a show-off, she can be prone to accepting challenges or dares.

Although generally outgoing and personable, Cantata can be a bit of a chameleon, able to shift and put on the right face to best suit the person she's dealing with if she finds it appropriate. This is in part thanks to the fact that Cantata is surprisingly perceptive in social situations - she picks up on what others are feeling quickly, and can be rather adept at knowing just what to say.

Abilities
Empathic Senses - Cantata is a style of psychic known as an empath; rather exerting her will over the physical universe, Cantata deals primarily in emotions. She can innately sense feelings and emotions from those around her, and is prone to a degree of bleed-through - in large crowds and gatherings, the overall mood of her environs can leak through and tinge Cantata's own feelings. In addition, she can sometimes sense lingering imprints of emotions and events in an area with a great deal of focus.

Empathic Manipulation - Over the years, Cantata has learned to channel her empathic senses offensively by amplifying, dulling and altering the feelings of others, inflaming passions or inducing apathy. This ability extends to manipulating mental and emotional connections and perceptions; Cantata can trick people into briefly perceiving her as friends, allies or loved ones, make herself seem insignificant and forgettable, or see her as a trustworthy ally and confidant. She cannot, however, create emotions from thin air - connections must be rewired, feelings drawn from the target or others around them.

Certified Agent - As a spy, saboteur and occasional assassin, Cantata has picked up a distinctive set of skills. She has a knack for social infiltration and is remarkably good at charming and "fast-talking" others, and can whip up disguises and costumes fairly well. She is also adept at more physical means, both stealthy and athletic - she is a skilled lockpicker and pickpocket, and can scale walls and sneak into windows and doors easily with the right tools at hand. Cantata is also familiar with a wide range of practical and improvised weapons, but specializes in short swords, knives and pistols.

Silent Type - Cantata is mute, and cannot speak. In addition, the nature of her injury prevents her from yelling, laughing, humming or making any other sound produced by the vocal cords. Generally, she is limited to breathy facsimiles and noises like sighs and gasps. However, Cantata can has learned to communicate and express herself incredibly well through combinations of hand sign and body language, relying on textual mediums like phones and written the word when these prove sufficient or clunky to communicate through.

Cantata is married to Fettina and their anniversary is on July 21st.

Description
Fidelia cuts a rather compact figure, with a small, wiry form and a durable frame. She's fairly built with a lot of muscle definition to her arms and back, but with some lingering signs of scrawniness from a rather poor upbringing. She has thick, expressive eyebrows and pale green eyes, with an anglular jaw and tanned skin

However, what most people note about Fidelia is the scarring on her face. A pronounced blade scar divides her right eyebrow, with lighter slash marks marking the bridge of the nose and the side of her right cheek. Additional blade scars of varying lightness mark across Fidelia's body - but most of the scarring seems to center on her back with a much more pronounced series of long, unpleasant slashes and whip scars from some manner of abuse. Curiously, a spiderweb vein of steel metal mars the skin of Fidelia's left thigh.

Fidelia favors long sweaters and short skirts that give her room to maneuver, preferring to cover up the scars on her back and usually pairing skirts with stockings or thigh highs for a degree of coverage. She favors comfortable fabrics and pale, pastel colors, and appreciates attire that makes her feel somewhat feminine and girly - however, she barely wears makeup, and jewelry usually ranges at most to a choker.

Personality
Quiet and measured, Fidelia can be somewhat closed-off towards strangers, and tends to regard others with a base level of wariness and suspicion. This is an old habit Fi has been making efforts to mitigate, however, attempting to be more friendly and open towards coworkers and friends of friends. Despite this wariness, she tends to cling onto those close to her, thriving on closeness and comfort from friends and loved ones.

Fidelia has a vested interest in combat and martial arts, and has a lot of knowledge relating to knives and blades. She tends to have a somewhat direct approach towards problems in her life but favors action rather than words, and can struggle to find the right terms to express herself at times.

History
Fidelia was born in Skyside and orphaned at a fairly young age, forced to survive on the streets of the Thunderhead district with little else than her wits and instincts. She learned quickly to steal to sustain herself, often bouncing around between various groups and homeless communities as they shifted or splintered under the predations and pressures of slavers, gangs and mad villains.

It was in this climate that Fidelia began to learn to not just flee and escape but stand and fight, picking up a skill with various knives that she would manage to scavenge or steal from others. As time went on, she even learned to maintain them, using her fledgling genasi abilities to help mend the blades of her weapons - but unfortunately, it would not be enough.

After robbing a local Skyside gang, Fidelia attracted notice and retribution, and was cornered and taken captive. What followed was a night of physical abuse and focused cruelty, an event which left Fidelia with a tapestry of cruel scars across her back from gouging knives and whips. Severely traumatized, the gang eventually found they had worn through the fun of torturing the woman, dragging her out into the streets to kill and dispose of her - only for a roving vigilante to stumble upon their ad hoc execution and carve a bloody swath through Fidelia's captives.

Fidelia came to on Jenette d'Aubigny's couch with her wounds bandaged and sown - and after an initial period of nerves and anxiety as Fidelia realized the situation and grappled with the trauma she had dealt with, the knight chose to help Fi get up on her feet. In return, she swore to repay Jenette for her hospitality, serving as a sort of squire by fighting alongside her and caring for her gear. In time, the two soon fell in love.

Abilities
Ferro-Sanguine Soul - Marked by planar magic at birth, Fidelia is capable of channeling magic from an eldritch plane and manifesting it in the material world as steel. Blades materialize and shields spring from nothing, molten steel flowing from the mark on Fidelia's thigh to weave barbed wire and sharp needles. To do so demands focus and energy, however; Fidelia lacks stamina, and finds it difficult to maintain large forms such as clones for prolonged periods or across distances.

Description
Tall, blonde and fair-skinned, Caelynn is a slender woman in her late forties with a sizeable bust and gentle curves. She has an oval face with thin brows and soft features, framed by wavy blonde hair usually worn loose at around neck length. Her pale violet eyes are perhaps the most immediately eye-catching thing about her, aside from a set of expressive feline ears and a matching tail. There is also an old, faded scar that rings almost completely around the catgirl's neck, as if she had once been strangled - or even decapitated.

Caelynn favors purples, whites and neutral greys and blacks in her attire, and tends towards clothing that provides a degree of snug coverage - long-sleeved shirts, sweaters and turtlenecks are often paired with skinny jeans or skirts and tights, though she prefers more practical footwear to heels. When working, Caelynn wears a long white doctor's coat over her usual attire.

Personality
Caelynn is a friendly and positive woman with a great deal of compassion. A bit of an extrovert, she is very considerate towards the needs and feelings of others, and has both an uncanny eye for just what might be troubling someone and a tendency towards helping as best she can - something in which Caelynn can be admittedly rather stubborn, even if she rarely comes off as forceful or insistent.

Caelynn has a strong interest in books and literature and a certain dedication to her work, always making an effort to expand her ability to help the Nexus's myriad denizens and study up on the newest developments in her field. She is also slow to give up on people and tends to think the best of them, dedicating a lot of time and effort into caring for her patients. As such, much like her daughter, Caelynn is prone to overworking herself - a tendency not helped by the fact that she struggles to turn down or abandon social obligations or commitments.

However, this expertise is largely confined to the mundane - magical ailments and conditions are a relative unknown until her return to the Nexus, and she may still struggle to diagnose and account for such things.

Description

Her ears are those of a rabbit's, and she has a matching tail protruding just above her rear. Both of these features are the same off-white shade of her hair and brows, pale against her warm skin.

Calanthe's figure is rather statuesque, with slim shoulders and wide hips, and she carries herself with a certain poise and grace. In addition she has a strange pattern of faint, dark purple scarring on each arm, stretching from the wrists towards the elbows in crackling veins that seem to fade the farther they get from the source.

The witch tends to dress conservatively, wearing dresses with long sleeves, shallow necklines and ankle-length skirts that obscure much of her skin. Her attire tends to echo the forest, usually consisting of greens, whites and browns, and accessorized with woolen jackets, hiking boots, and a large, crooked witch's hat when outdoors. She also wears black wrist-length gloves when handling insects, messes and other such things.

Personality
Calanthe is a fastidious woman with fine manners and a rather proper manner of speech. There is a slightly reserved and mysterious air about her, and it is rare that there is not a soft smile on her lips. Despite this, she can prove to be very friendly and open in conversation, with a clear passion for the natural world around her.

Calanthe holds a distinct interest in insects and fungi as the rarely-considered elements that make so much of it possible, particularly those that decompose and continue the cycle of life. Despite this, she lacks a certain sense of sanctity; Calanthe has no trouble with the using living things one's own means, as long as they are respected and sourced sustainably.

A teacher through and through, Calanthe is incredibly fond of children and adores their company. Entertaining them comes easily to her and she has a flair for the dramatic, quick to play things up and weave narratives that help hold her audience's attention.

Description
Dulcinea is tall, thin and gangly, with shallow curves that do not draw the eye much. Her pallid skin suggests some kind of chronic condition, a speckling of freckles across her cheeks and shoulders. Her face is a little gaunt and light shadows suggest that she does not sleep very well. Despite this, Dulcinea projects an aura of life and energy. Her ice-blue eyes seem to crackle with electricity as lustrous pink hair bobs with every chiming laugh and roll of the eyes

Regardless of the weather, Dulcinea generally tries to dress in long skirts and nice blouses, favoring a business-casual style of dress that makes her look more mature and grown-up than she truly is. She's particularly fond of a large pink greatcoat that she drapes over the shoulders in all but the hottest weather.

Dulcinea walks with a noticeable limp to her right leg, and uses a cane to offset this. In addition she frequently dyes her ginger hair pink - or, when feeling insecure due to chemo treatments, dyed wigs to conceal hair loss from the process.

Personality
Unrelenting and effervescent, Dulcinea presents herself as a bright ray of energy and joy. No matter is too small to hype up, no issue too little to put all of her energy into... and no concern too minimal to relentlessly exaggerate. She is a girl of great highs and terrible lows; compliments are laid on with effusive praise, inconveniences are blown into terrible catastrophes, and slights are bitterly remembered and repaid tenfold.

Beneath this vivacious face however, Dulcinea can be surprisingly manipulative and calculating. It comes naturally to use her charm, her intelligence and others' perceptions as tools to get what she wants, picking up on small and revealing details and filing them away for later use. She never feels truly content without a feeling of control and, when left to her own devices, will engage in constructing increasingly convoluted schemes to satisfy this. She also has a deeply prideful streak, choosing to do things for months in order to win arguments or make points.

History
Dulcinea was born and raised in the Nexus to Priscilla Antoninus Lux, a long-lived and rambunctious elven woman who has bounced from various lifetimes from soldier to explorer, botanist and expert physicist to eventually raise a family in Riverside while working as a radiologist as a form of "early retirement". She and her husband Emile are doting if busy parents, and her passion and spontaneity impressed heavily on Dulcinea as she grew up.

Dulcinea was initially very close to Euryalos, her older twin brother - however, the two grew drastically apart by the time she began to socially transition in her tweens. He is quiet, sullen and shares his sister's streaks for pride and bitterness; he has always seen her as the favored child, and their relationship has thus far broken down to barbed comments and rolled eyes. She has a more positive one with her sister Cayenne, an energetic girl two years younger. However the two aren't terribly close, as her interests in sports wildly diverge from Dulcinea's own passions for games, RPGs and novels.

Much more key in Dulcinea's life is her childhood friend Reilana. The two have been the closest of friends since before either of them can even remember due to their families being friends before their births, though some mild strain lingers between the twos' parents since Reilana's biological mother and father divorced. This has not stopped the two from becoming utterly inseparable and supportive of the other.

Dulcinea takes particular fascination in Reilana's developing aptitude for necromancy, and is also increasingly aware of the massive crush her friend has developed for her. Despite sharing the same feelings, she is adamant that Reilana must confess first as it would be "more romantic that way", and has engaged in various plots and schemes to nudge her towards doing so with an increasingly heavy hand.

At around fourteen, Dulcinea's life was rather seriously rocked with a diagnosis of osteocarma in her right femur. The cancer originally seemed to bow under chemotherapy and surgery, only to flare back two years later with a vicious persistence and metastasize into her lungs despite aggressive treatment by her doctors and parents. At the moment, Dulcinea has only a year at most to live and is sorting through the ordeal of figuring out how she wants to make her last goodbyes, including finally confessing her love to Reilana. Fate, however, may have other plans.

Lockpicks - May tends to carry a set of lockpicks with her wherever she goes and is surprisingly adept with them. She mainly uses them to show off for her friends, getting them into places they otherwise shouldn't be and exploring the many tunnels and abandoned buildings in Riverside.

Promise Ring - A silver ring with a flowing water motif of fine make, inset with a single amethyst at the center. This ring was gifted to her by Eliseo Rizzo and symbolizes a vow to marry later in life.

Gravity is weak and sometimes seems absent, eyes miss her in a crowd.

The Hungry Shell - As a kumiho, May and Scarlet cannot naturally generate new tails from life experiences like most kitsune. Instead they are haunted by a cannibalistic hunger to consume manifestations of fellow fey in the material world, stealing the concepts associated with them to manifest new tails. While it can be kept at bay with the livers of ordinary humanoids, the effect lasts longer when they have made the kill herself, and only results in a new tail if the victim is a changeling or otherwise feytouched. The hunger is more than psychological - if not sated, she will eventually starve.

Cthonic Nature - As a kumiho, May and Scarlet belong to a class of fey known as psychopomps, which interact with the fey underworld and bad dreams. They are capable of lucid dreaming and dreamwalking, and can enter and exit the underworld through the dreams of others. However, this connection to the underworld renders her infertile.

Duplicate - During Nye Trued’s Midsummer Party, May and Scarlet were temporarily split into two forms as part of a magic trick. In resolving this, they were given the ability to split and reunite at will. This enables both of them to be physically present at once. Neither of them prefer to be in this state for long though, feeling in some way hollow or “off” with the other’s mental absence.

Quick Fingers - May is rather skilled with her hands and can demonstrate a surprising degree of finesse and fine motor control. She is adept at lockpicking and playing the guitar, both being hobbies she practices in her spare time.

When referred to as a collective, the two of them prefer to use their former shared name of Anastasia, or “the Anas”.

May has been through a series of experiences that have caused her to develop post-traumatic stress disorder, most notably her victimization by the Yokai of Violent Ends. She is prone to dissociation, startles easily and has difficulty sleeping. She is also deeply uncomfortable with strangers touching her or the sensation of hands gripping her shoulders.

Personality
Stubborn and terse, Scarlet is an opinionated young woman who insists she knows what to do and knows it better than anybody. She is pragmatic, prefers to keep her feelings to herself and has little patience for moral scruples or petty drama. This does not make her entirely impersonable; she still craves company and can have a playful, almost mischievous side once she’s opened up to someone.

Scarlet prioritizes the safety of herself and people close to her above all else, and will go to any length to ensure it. She does her best to counter her more callous instincts and be conscious of emotional needs as much as physical ones.

History
Scarlet is a headmate of May’s, a second personality that coalesced around her fey self during the Riverside invasion as a means of compartmentalizing the trauma she experienced. She has largely kept watchful but dormant since then, only fronting in situations where their life was in mortal danger. It was Scarlet who murdered Natalia in Moth Park - a grisly but necessary crime in her eyes, as May was starving and she had no choice but to intercede or allow the both of them to die.

Unfortunately, Natalia’s murder drew the attention of a terrible spirit, the Yokai of Violent Ends. The Yokai developed an obsession with the Anas and began to pursue May, threatening her family. Between it and other pressures, May reached a breaking point. She attempted to run away in a suicidal desire to spare those she loved from suffering for her sins, only to be cornered by the Yokai. Scarlet watched in horror as the spirit broke May down and convinced her to let it become a part of them, unable to force herself to the fore and take over. When the yokai entered her and May’s shared headspace, Scarlet killed and devoured the entity out of vengeance and a desperate desire to spare May from its mental presence.

When May’s friends finally found her, May panicked and retreated into herself, forcing Scarlet outwards and bringing her existence as a separate personality to light. Since then, Scarlet has begun to come out of her shell and embrace seeing herself as a full person, working with May to find a healthy and harmonious balance between the two of them.

She now has an instinctual knowledge of everything to do with murder - the quickest ways to deliver a killing blow, how to stalk a target, who people are least likely to notice the absence of and how to best dispose of a body afterwards. It is not a skillset Scarlet is particularly happy to have.

May and Scarlet have unequal levels of memory sharing between them; when May is in control, Scarlet tends to remember the experiences that have occurred since her last appearance, witnessing much of it as if in a dreamlike state. May, however, is entirely dormant when Scarlet is in control, and remembers none of what she experiences. At the moment, neither have established ways of communicating beyond lucid dreams and third parties. With time and effort, this may change.
