[Catside after Catside]

Everyone ends up in the catgirl manor facing their internal demons sooner or later.

Adam gives a short laugh. "Yes, well I wouldn't expect you to be a doctor seeing that you need to see one. But don't worry, we have the best." He gives a thoughtful pause though as she explains further. "Magibiology and a curse... that might be beyond our capabilities though. We tend to focus more on science here, so you may be looking for a clergyman of some kind. We'll do our best to diagnose the problem at any rate, so you can have something to work off of." They can at least understand the science behind the symptoms even if they can't handle the cause or offer a cure. It'll certainly be a big step to finding one though. Curses are tricky and one must be wary of trying to cure them rashly, lest they spread or mutate.

"For now, just try to relax and enjoy yourself. Have you found anything about the ears and tail to your liking?" Adam queries, trying to look for the positives in what was surely a traumatic experience.

"Well far be it from me to disparage cheating," Reinholdt says. There's been a couple traps and puzzles over the years he circumvented rather than solved.

Sylvia's question seems to catch him off guard though and he has to seriously consider that. "I think it was a branding thing at first? To be different from the other organizations? But I honestly think it stuck most of all because of the goblin tunnels in the mountains. Their boss has a lot of connections to those networks, being a goblin himself. I imagine he finds the location actually quite convenient." Reinholdt ends up shrugging. Just a guess though.

The airplane next approaches a lake and looking closely, one could see something big and metallic within its watery depths. Reinholdt lights up. "Wait a minute... I know this lake! Hey! HEY!" Reinholdt says, forcefully tapping at the back of the pilot's seat. "Land here!"

The pilot seems taken aback for a moment at the undesignated detour. "Here?"

"Yeah, here. Do it," Reinholdt demands.

The pilot sighs and scouts out a piece of land near the lake that would suffice as a runaway. "Yeah, ok I guess. Whatever. Hold on tight." The skeleton says, as he starts to dip the plane.
[Around the World in Eighty Posts]

"C-Convenient?" There was a little disbelief in Sylvia's voice. The idea of building a base high up in the mountains seemed as far from convenient as one could get- even if it was great for connections. Then again, she knew of lapin who lived in tunnel cities. The Warrens really were just a modern spin on such a thing. Still, at least the views would be nice.

"Hey, what's th-that?" The bunny asked when Reinholdt seemed to notice something. Before she can get a glimpse of whatever it is though, Rein starts to demand they land. This was something Sylvia would never dare to do. She could be halfway across a different country before she could build up the courage to tell a driver they were going the wrong way. And then before she could get over this new spout of anxiety, the plane began to tilt. Sylvia yelped, taking the pilots advice and holding on tight.

Really, it was only a plane turning. Not much of an adventure. But the bunny still felt they might drop out of the sky at any moment.

The man doesn't seem to be much bothered by her words and instead picks his phine up. A phone that looks liek a tablet then a phone but it's from a brand that seems to rise on the market.

"Just to note, you called our number we placed at merc. If I was really a magbot then the real people should be here soon. Or you call again so my phone will ring."

He types something in the phone and then starts a call.

"Hey, get the money."

A pause follows befor the person on the other line confirms this and he hangs up.

"Should you wish to have any service like weapons or other tools instead of payment you can contact me and we will see what is possible." he says to Reina.

Soon after, one of the Guards from outside will come inside with a box that contains the money and hand it over to Reina.

Then he turns to Magtok.
"That would be really nice of you. I would like to have a second opinion on that. The things about my death I recived were kinda disapointing."

June nods, because, "Having a starting place is pretty helpful."
I'm sure all the nurses and doctors and janitors from that cult can confirm that curses are tricky and easy to spread. On that note, June coated her curse earring back in plastic again, so there should hopefully be no problems with it again.

"Well...I mean..."
June puts down her cup.
She twists and glances at her tail.
Shoot, this isn't really something that she wanted to admit, but...it's definitely the best part about the ears and tail. Very embarrassing to admit aloud, actually.
"Um...it's...y'know. They're kinda pretty cute." Her voice gets quieter because it is incredibly embarrassing to say this aloud in a room full of catgirls.
She bites her lip and looks at her plate, trying to pretend it's the most fascinating food she's ever seen.

Reinholdt shrugs a little at Sylvia's disbelief. "The leader is a goblin himself so..." Probably got some sort of group travel discount package or something. Rein can only guess at the wacky machinations that unfurl in Dipsnig's mind.

"That! That is a genuine UFO. Err... well I've never actuallysee it fly before. Ok, so maybe not a ufo, but it IS a spaceship." Reinholdt grins as the plane starts to descend. Technically they are dropping out of the sky just like Sylvia fears, but it's a controlled drop. Falling with style.

The initial bump that jerks the whole plane when they first touchdown might be a tad alarming, even drawing a gasp from Rein who isn't used to flying in one of these either. But it all seems to be part of the process and the second bump is smoother and the third hardly even counts as one as the plane rolls to a stop. An impressive landing given the lack of airstrip, though the audience is probably all wrong to appreciate the skeleton's effort and skill.

Reinholdt barely waits for the plane to stop before he's taking off his seat belt and popping the door open eagerly. He holds out his hand to help Sylvia out as well, expecting her to follow him on this whirlwind.
"I went inside it last time... with the help of a drafon admittedly. But that's where I fought with Zombie Waldo."

[The Continyantal Hotel]

Reina slightly inclines her head as payment is delivered. "This is fine, thank you." She declines further comment and steps out of the man's way, giving him and his team full access to take Magtok away. The mercatnery retreats to the corner of the room so as not to intrude while fortune teller Magtok reads the big man's future. Finally, Reina has discovered the purpose as to Magtok's robes.

[Catside after Catside]

Adam probably shouldn't laugh, but he does anyways, just a little. Some girlish giggles accompany him as his companions join in. It is kept short though, and as good natured as possible. "Ah, yes. Yes they are. You would be hard pressed to find a differing opinion, at least within Catside. And certainly not at the manor." A lot of people were recruited and volunteered to become catpeople outside of the cult's machinations after all.

"Yeah, I'll bet they were," Magtok mutters under his breath, before clearing his throat and mentally preparing himself for the next phase of this operation. Reina has stepped aside and payment has been received; we're all clear to make our escape attempt without her interference. Well, assuming she's not lying, which is a pretty big assumption to make, given how her entire kidnapping scheme was built upon a very transparent and obvious lie. There's nothing stopping her from meddling, nothing to prevent her from acting against us as a show of good faith because she intends to work with this client again later. Even so, this is still the best chance of success we're going to get, so we'd better take it while we can.

"Okay, so I've had the computer run the algorithm, and it turns out you die of embarrassment, big guy. Your heart just stops in an instant, you literally drop dead from shame, that's what the data says," Magtok lies, his hands still shifting around behind his back where no one else can see them. He shifts his eyes towards the massive window taking up the entire wall one last time, before giving the swat team one last smug grin.

"The computer didn't give me the specifics, but if I had to venture a guess, it's because your entire squad loses to an idiot tied to a chair. Completely trounced by a madman tied to a chair, wearing handcuffs, his fingers all stuck together. I mean, I don't know about you, but I would find that pretty humiliating," Magtok shrugs, before the chair he's sitting in suddenly starts floating in the air, propelled by the antigravity implant in Magtok's spine. It doesn't stay there for long, as Magtok carefully leans forward in the chair to angle himself toward the window, and sends the chair rocketing towards the glass at high speed. In retrospect, it might've been a good idea to ask Reina to open the window first, to make some excuse about wanting to feel the breeze so he wouldn't have to crash through the glass like this, but oh well. It's a little too late for that now.

June feels embarrassed.
But, like, it's the good kind of embarrassment because it's been a while.

Anyway.

Um.

Food.

Yes.

Food's a thing.

She looks back up.
June's face doesn't exactly go red (due to not having blood) but she still feels traces of the pinkish burning in her cheeks. "Yeah, I figured. I mean, I could tell from the time I was here."

The big man doesn't stand still when magtok speaks. Why should he. So he moves to the cyborg while listening to his monolouge. The man is a bit suprised when the hostage suddendly rises up. He can't know everything about the cyborg, but that doesn't seem like a 'I stay your hostage' thing. When he leans to the window the big man grabs one of Magtoks legs and gets suddendly pulled out the window with the hostage, hanging on his leg. How much weight can his antigrav module lift? Do they sink now? Either way the mans grip is strong even if now he got shards of glass all over his face and upper body causin him to bleed slightly.

"I am a bit disapointed Mr. Magtok. I thought you wouldn't go for an escae until you had a chance to ask us out and gather futher informations."

The man just now hopes his weight is to much for the cyborgs tech and hopes to slowly get down or gethim to surreder.

In the mean time the minions of the big man swarm into the room. Th two guys with the rifels position themself at the window aiming at the cyborg, but not doing anything. The shield guys stand next to them(including the one bring in the money). The medic and spellcaster walk in much slower as there is no work for them to do. All stay prepared and the medic gets out a camera to catch the scene. Reina won't have trouble leaving, but the minions keep an eye on her in case she does something against them.

Food is a thing, often convenient and often inconvenient. Makes for a decent distraction either way.

"Well either way, keep them or not, we'll see what we can do for you. Though, speaking of cat ears, I suppose I never asked why you came to visit Catside in the first place. What brought you to our quaint little city?" Adam asks June. Why it doesn't even show up in the Urban threads on 4cat! Was she looking for a cat-based makeover but got caught up in cult catastrophe? Or was she merely catching the tours?

[The Continyantal Hotel]

Well if both sides are expecting Reina to turn against them, she fails to see why she should help either of them. Besides, even if she could fly and catch Magtok to bring him back with relative ease, it seems like the big man has everything in hand. Literally in some ways.

Reina's not going to stick around just to soak up some stinkeye, so she'll turn to head downstairs and walk out the front door. She can watch this from the ground. Or find some out of the way roof to leap up to and watch from there.

"Hrm," he says, thinking aloud. He was going to try to say one last thing to Reina before flying off, but it doesn't look like things are going quite according to plan. She's already leaving, and the weight hanging off our leg is making it difficult just to stay airborne, so even if we knew what to say, we wouldn't have long to say it. With a tired sigh, Magtok decides he'll just have to call her or something later. Maybe hire an incompetent assassin to thank her for the date. The fabric isn't that strong, so if the big guy insists on holding on, the pants will tear, but either way, that still results in a calamitous drop for one of the two people floating outside the hotel. Worse yet, the water in that fountain is extremely shallow, so I doubt it'll do much of anything to cushion the fall. There's a very real possibility the big guy could fall to his death if no one does anything to save him.

"Mwahahahahaha! Fools! Lord Magtok has bested your feeble efforts yet again! This time, with both arms tied behind his back!" he cackles maniacally, twirling in the air to make his imminent departure that much more theatrical.

[Catside after Catside]

Unfortunately, June rarely checks 4cat's Urban threads so even if it was there she wouldn't know.

June shrugs in response. Even including her work friends she only told, what...three? four people? And one of those was in her application for time off.
"Met some guy named Butler. We talked for a bit, gave him directions, and he recommended visiting. Probably not the Butler you're thinking of, though." It's possibly a common name.
She doesn't mention that he was a male stripper doing that job to pay off his butlering school loans, or something like that. Since that would imply they met at a work party strip club and she actually met him while avoiding the work party.

Wait....
it's clicking in her mind.
Butler was actually dressed similar to half the people here. Maybe he actually wasn't a stripper and was just eyecandy instead. But, still, the chances that he was the Butler that the tour mentioned is unlikely. About as unlikely as this Adam being the same Adam, in fact. June puts those at about the same odds.
Which is to say, if she were at a casino, it'd be the kind of bet she'd just put a small amount of money on because the payout is so high and because it would be a fun story to exaggerate how she risked it all on some unlikely chance.
Probably not the same.

[Catside after Catside]

It becomes clear from the juxtaposition of expressions between Adam and the other catpeople that Adam is the only one who seems to really recognize the person in question. Everyone else just presumes it's some butler who was hung up on his privacy or something.

"Butler! Ah, it's good to hear he's doing well. Or at least alive. Is he doing well? Did he seem healthy to you? It's been ages since I've last seen him." Adam smiles fondly as he discusses the other catboy.

If she wanted to make bets, June needed to go to the Lucky Cat Casino and follow a completely different plotline entirely. High stakes, higher payout. A bit less refined than the fancy mansion though, so June probably won the overall gamble.

Huh.
If not everybody knows who he is, then maybe it could've actually been him? Because chances are much higher that you'll meet a famous person's lookalike than an actual famous person, probably. But if Mr Adam knows him but nobody else does, then that just increases the chances.
It makes some kind of sense.

"Yeah, he's doing well," June says. She tries to think back on what Butler said. "He's working for some rich lady who sent him out to buy unicorn tears to serve at a party, I think." If someone's serving unicorn tears at a party, you know they've got to be rich which would imply they pay Butler well.

She never did get to visit the Lucky Cat Casino, did she? That's too bad, it sounded pretty fancy and sparkly.

Adam tilts his head a little in thought. "Sounds like he's doing well enough then. He always did love his work. Or love to work? Maybe a work-a-holic even. Maybe if... well, as long as he's happy." Adam smiles a little, hiding some ancient regrets with a sip of fancy wine.

The conversations turn more mundane, discussing all manner of trivialities from catgirl celebrities like Catalie Portman and Margaret Scratcher, to catgirl sports like Curling. If June had any more specific questions to ask, she could always insert them at most any point, though maybe she'd prefer to discuss such things after dinner.

Which is both delicious and filling.

Or maybe she just wishes to save her questions for the medical exam tomorrow. There will certainly be lots of questions to be had then.

"He definitely seemed happy," June says.

It's rather unfortunate, June doesn't know any of the catgirl celebrities or catgirl sports. Doesn't really follow them. (She doesn't really follow any of the Riverside celebrities, either, so that's not that surprising.) So mostly she just listens to the talk about them. Don't get her wrong! She does find talk about sports and celebrities to be interesting! It's just that she doesn't follow them.

Over dinner isn't really the best place for very important conversations. Business conversations, yes, but not important conversations. And, of course, all medical questions are definitely best saved for tomorrow.

The man doesn't reply to the cyborg, the man tries to gab the other leg,.
But assuming simple physiks counts here then the leg he grabed is the lowest point and magtok was tilting to the side he grabed making it impossible to grab the other leg which is higher up. so the man falls down, but doesn't seem to be shocked or even worried as he just tips against the necklace.

Magtok might not be so happy, because the guys with their rifle immediatly fire at him when their boss noticed the falls. They have some good aim, but they don't aim for vital points since they don't want to kill him. Hoping that the wounds they might cause can bring him down.

If magtok can still watch the big guy he will notice that he is gone, never hit the ground. If he looks at the guys fire at him he will seee the big man enter the apartment through the door.

Dinner continues uneventfully then, along with dessert. If June wants an after dinner movie, she can enjoy the rather fancy in mansion theater. Or she could try to get a foosball rematch. Or she could just go to sleep.

Hopefully she gets some sleep though, because a servant will be by in the morning relatively early (but not ungodly early) to wake June up so that they may lead her to the doctor's.

Of course, June goes to the after-dinner theater: she needs to find out what this Catalie Portman looks like. After all, if that was possibly the Butler that she met earlier, then she needs to get acquainted with what other celebrities look like so this sort of thing doesn't happen again. It would be so awkward to run into Catalie Portman, for example, and be the only person who doesn't know it's actually her!

She does go to sleep, though.
A little late, but that's fine because she's rarely needed the full 8 hours of sleep, anyway.

Once awake, she gets ready, takes a few moments to mentally prepare herself and list out on her hand all the things she hopes to find out, and goes off to the doctor's.

[Catside after Catside]

Likely to June's relief, she has not met Catalie Portman in person as of yet, and thus has not unknowingly embarrassed herself. This information no doubt provides June with the peace of mind she needs for a sound and productive sleep.

June is led to a deep part of the manor, one far less traversed by the various catpeople on display in the front. There's a more somber and business-like air back here. At some point it even stops feeling like a mansion and starts feeling more like a laboratory, colder and more sterile. It's here she'll find herself in an examination room. It's a little nicer than the corridors just outside, being reminiscent of a normal doctor's office. June has to go through some generic measurements of height and weight and blood pressure - the last surely drawing an eyebrow raise from the nurse. But she merely marks it down before leaving June alone for a few minutes.

Once those minutes pass, the door opens and Adam steps inside, wearing a labcoat and stethoscope. "Well then. I hope you slept well?"

Sylvia's eyes widen. They must be the size of saucers by now. Which, speaking of saucers...

"W-What's a spaceship d-doing out here!?" She asks, somewhat in disbelief. But she can see it. She might not know how to recognize it, but there was clearly something out there, and for all his wild stories she had no reason to doubt he was telling the truth. "Who j-just... leaves s-something like th-that, lying around? Isn't that d-dangerous? What if i-it got s-stolen?"

It was amazing she managed to get any sentences out at all, considering how queasy and worried she seemed as the plane dipped. She let out a rather undignified yelp when they landed, and was all-to-hasty in following Reinholdt out of the plane. She seemed desperate to step onto solid ground again. As she seems to finally recover some sense of composure, she looks back up at him. "Z-Zombie... Waldo..?"

Reinholdt strokes his chin in thought. "Yes... yes, what IF it got stolen?" Reinholdt repeats, a slow grin forming on his face as he stares at Sylvia. "Beauty and brains, by big bosomed bunny goddesses, you're a genius!" Rein's praises heap upon Sylvia as they reach the water's edge.

"He was an ancient sith lord of hide and seek. One of my tougher escapades, I'll admit. But don't worry, I cleared all the undead out last time I was here!" It's exceedingly improbable that more undead moved in between then and now.

Rein lets go of Sylvia's hand to pull out a pair of glass vials with some bluish liquid inside and a clump of kelp out of his pocket. "Step one of any decent heist is reaching the target. I presume you can't breathe underwater." Rein raises the vials. "These potions will let us breathe underwater for about thirty minutes." He repeats the motion for the kelp. "This will turn us into mermaids for a few hours instead. Which would you prefer?"

Magtok has no intention of sticking around to see if the big guy survives the fall. As soon as the extra weight is off his leg, he's already zooming through the night sky, speeding away over Riverside as fast as he can, making a beeline straight for the MagCave miles away from here. Unfortunately, this means it'd also be super easy to track him down. A chair flying over the city tends to stand out, even in a place like the Nexus, and even if you can't follow the chair, the trail of blood left by one of the bullets that connected with his body should help identify where he's been and where he's going. He's injured, but he's still going, still hurrying away towards the one place that might still welcome him and bandage his wound.

[Catside after Catside]

After a sound and productive sleep, June wakes up.

Honestly, the deeper and back part of the mansion does give her that weird feeling of déjà vu.
It's making her feel like the basement of the hotel, and it's giving her shivers. Though, it's not this place's fault. She's probably going to feel this way in any relatively-empty medical-sterile place for a while.

The nurse ought to have figured out something weird was up when they got to the weight, being a third as much as she ought to be. It's true, though, the blood pressure really would be the biggest sign that something needs to be looked at. After both of those together, it's pretty clear that it's not just measurement error.

June is surprised to see Adam right there, dressed up that way. Almost as surprised as she would be if Ms. Catalie Portman was right there and June found herself somehow on some reality TV show.
She blinks in surprise.
"Oh, um. Yeah," June nods. "Yeah, slept pretty well." She quickly gets to the elephant in the room: "So you're also a doctor, then? I probably should have foreseen this, but I guess it caught me off guard."

She stops.
Sits.
Both of them kind-of know why she's here, so June internally debates whether she should start off immediately speaking and explaining, or if it's best to wait for Adam to prompt her to start speaking.

Either way,
"So, um. Curse, magibiology, nanosurgery, things happened, um....probably would be fastest to just show you, yeah?" June says. She closes her eyes, thinking back at all the time she's spent hiding and ignoring this just to kind-of come out and show it in front of an audience-of-one right here.
June grabs her pinkie finger and bends that finger back to touch the back of her hand. Admittedly, not that weird, right? People can do this.
She does the same with her wrist, next. Bent straight back.
Still something someone particularly flexible can do, right?
June takes a few breaths to give time to build up to one that most nobody else can do.
She grabs her arm and, right in the middle of her forearm she bends it so that it folds back on itself.

She releases it, lets it sink in. Clears her throat. "So, uh....no bones."
June looks down and away, in hopes that by not looking in his eyes that's basically the same thing as him not being there. "Actually, if you squeeze my hand really hard, or my shoulder, or anywhere, really, you'll see that there's no flesh there, either. It's, um, all...something else."
She waves her hands at her chest, intending to draw attention to her internal organs. Heart? Stomach? Lungs? Ribs? And her sentence comes out like a runaway horse let free from its carriage. "No idea how any of this works, either, and it all just makes me wonder if the only reason why it's working is because I think it's supposed to be working and if I thought about it too hard then it'd stop working." Like why her hands still give off enough body heat that it seems normal even though, honestly, it doesn't make sense for them to be giving off that much body heat? Or how body stiffness seems close enough to appear normal even though there's no reason for it to be that way, or how she walks without the elegant complexity of muscles, or other things like that.

"Yes, I'm the lead doctor here in fact. I assure you the other doctors are more than capable in my stead, but you present a rather unique case, I didn't want to provide anything less than the best," Adam explains.

He slides on a pair of gloves and begins to poke and prod mostly at June's hand for now, where the demonstration was. Then he works his way up her arm, moving it around in a variety of ways until releasing the appendage and moving on. He'll listen for a heartbeat, check her eyes with a light to see if they function normally, and also perform a simple reflex test whacking her knees with that little rubber mallet. Each time taking fresh notes on his clipboard.

"Would you be willing to submit to a ct scan?" They had to stop calling it a cat scan here just because of how the patients reacted every single time. "When did you first notice this unusual biology? You mentioned a curse? Every detail you can provide could be helpful information."

[Catside after Catside]

The eternal war between wanting to tell somebody and wanting to keep it close to her chest wages on inside her mind again.

Even when severely deforming June's arm, it still returns to its position like a sponge does after being squished or bent. No heartbeat, but her eyes do appear to work normally! And the reflex test is nearly good, just quite a bit weaker and the mallet doesn't quite hit the same resistance.

June answers, nodding: "Sure, a CT's fine," she says.

Somehow, the doctor being someone she's met before makes patient-doctor confidentiality gain a tactical advantage in the eternal war, so June thinks about what she should say. As she does this, she gets up and starts to take off her earrings, in preparation for the CT scan and go towards it.

"Well, I've always had an unusual biology," June says, lying as naturally as she breathes when it comes to this particular statement, "but if you're referring to this?" She pokes herself. "About a year ago, I noticed something was off. Um....these earrings are cursed, too, they interact strangely with blood so don't touch them." Actually, now that she thinks about it, she has another set of cursed earrings, too, doesn't she? One that makes whoever wears it become hopelessly lost. Huh, that's a weird coincidence. "Got them around the same time, too, but I already checked and they're unrelated. Um...." Where was she? She taps on her leg. "Oh! This is probably the part most relevant:"

June grabs her own tail. Gently, of course, but holds it up to direct her thoughts along the right train of thought. "The technology that gave me these, it works by replacing every cell in your body or something like that, right?" Okay, holding her tail like that feels weird so she lets go of it. "I'm not sure how long I was unconscious after the surgery, but when I woke up everything was like this. So it clearly was something that managed to propagate itself during or after the surgery."

The CT scan itself is simultaneously interesting and uninteresting. The imaging basically, if one didn't know better, would give the impression that the last intern to use it messed up the settings and forgot to tell anyone, in such an unfathomably strange way, that a technician trying to fix it wouldn't be able to replicate the problem. As expected, no bones or any other dense material. It's all soft and not dense. Organs are undifferentiable, except for the cases where there's empty spaces, like inside the lungs, throughout the digestive tract, and the thoracic cavity. It's like a normal body, but with no way to differentiate what's what based on density, since it's all basically the same.

Adam raises an eyebrow at June. "Well there's my first official recommendation as your doctor. Stop wearing cursed earrings." It might help improve June's situation if she didn't have so much cursed jewelry. "So you're saying you were born with an abnormal biology? Unusual how?" Adam asks, trying to be as thorough as possible as he roots for causes to separate them from symptoms.

"It's more modifying dna than replacing cells. The body does that second part on its own for the most part and the doctor's mostly need to monitor. I suspect they would have put you under a second time if you hadn't escaped, to try and finish the job or find out what went wrong." But that's speculation at this point.

Adam frowns at the CT results, putting them into a growing folder of the curiosity that is June's case file. Next, he asks to swab her cheeks so that he might view June's cells under a microscope.

The big man watches Magtok fly away until he is out of his Vision, then he tips on his necklace again. A few minutes later they all disapear from the room and the car parked in front starts to drive away. A close watcher may notice that someone went into the car as it was weight down.

Going for the magcave is like a suicid so they won't follow him blind. They need specialised people to deal with Magtok

'Curses are only a problem when you first get them,' she almost says, but chooses not to as soon as she remembers the earrings' secondary effect. She remembers it when she puts the backs back on the earrings and suddenly can't feel the microfluctuations of the air in the room. Oh, right. It very much continuously ramps up all touch-sensitivity.
...
...
Okay, maybe she shouldn't keep on wearing them all the time. Just like she shouldn't have grown dependent on transformation potions.

"Oh, just unusual in the typical atypical way," June says. That's probably really helpful of an explanation, right? She answers based on what happened while under the influence of those succubus-fairy potions. To be honest, this is probably a potentially good idea since she was unconscious at the time of the surgery and doesn't know if, at all, it affected the surgery itself. Although she does know she had mushroom before that. "Just, like...y'know. Magic. Flowers would spontaneously grow in my hair, natural affinity to magic...I don't even know, things like that." Actually, saying that aloud gets her thinking if there were more similarities between being turned into a mushroom and the potions she would take.

Well.
...
Her cheeks get swabbed.
The swabbed cells are quite clearly fungal cells, not animal cells. Even the saliva isn't regular saliva but is similar to mushroom fluids.

[Catside after Catside]

What a troublesome, non-specific patient. Adam glances at June extremely disapprovingly as she puts the earrings back on despite his explicit doctor's orders not to.

"Well... to the best that I can tell from the very unusual test results... you're not actually a person, you're a highly advanced fungal colony imitating a person. It would explain why it was so easy for flowers to grow in your hair. It would also explain why the surgery was only partially successful. Imposing dna on a colony already imposing dna on itself is always going to come back with mixed results." Adam's tail slowly swishes back and forth.

"Mind you, this is simply a best guess and I can recommend getting several second opinions. I'm no myconid expert, though perhaps you should seek one out. They could probably tell you a lot more about yourself than I can."

June had intended to not put the earrings back in until she had left, but possibly to get the disapproval or possibly to not risk losing it and some kid accidentally finding it, she does remove the backs again and put them back in her ears. After they're done with the testing, of course.

June would argue that being a fungal colony doesn't preclude one from being a person, but...to be honest, she kind-of agrees with Adam in this particular case. If it was someone else who was a fungal colony, she would totally argue back that that person is still a person. But since it's her, she has no choice but to admit it's correct.
She sighs.
She looks down.
"Yeah. I suppose that does make sense and explain some things," June says. "Of course I'll look for a mycologist or a magicologist to see what they think."

She thinks.
And then flexes her fingers.
Then looks up at Adam again. "So, Doctor Adam, did you get any insight on how this works, though?" she asks, flexing her fingers again to demonstrate. "I mean, without, like, muscles. Since last I checked, fungus doesn't have muscles. Any ideas?" Since she has no idea. And neither does her player, for that matter, which means any reasonable explanation could probably be true.
