[Greater Sattleborough]

The dullahan driver obeys, and the carriage veers off down an alleyway to the left at the very next opportunity. It's a rather small one, intended more for foot traffic than a vehicle of this size, and if the town was still inhabited this would probably result in some poor soul being ridden down... but as it stands, it seems to still be a serviceable enough route for escape, provided Samantha isn't about to try to tuck and roll out of the carriage.

As the carriage turns, its contents are thrown against the right wall; Jubilee (who continues to doze obliviously), Samantha, and... the scythe with the far-sharper-than-necessary blade. Fortunately, the shaft catches against Jubilee's arm, and as such the blade won't quite make it all the way to the door... though it doesn't need to in order to be a hazard.
Who're you? ...Don't matter.

Want some rye? Course ya do!

Here's to us!
Who's like us?
Damn few,
And they're aaaaall dead.

On the Trail of the Lair
"An... Orb?" there's a hint of skepticism in Sekhmet's voice. How could an object be as valuable as a child?

"I could carry you, Probably all of the yous." There are what, 6, 7 different versions of Khannie? If she split up most of them could fit on Mary's gigantic back.
"Right. Turning back into a human. Can you get off my head?"
Once Khannie is off, Mary will fold into herself, shrinking considerably down into... Not quite her old familiar succubus form. Her wings are covered in indigo feathers, and a fan of similar feathers has replaced the stinger on her tail. Her hair has taken on a similar sheen. She looks around, up at Thariza and Ambrosia and only slightly down at Khannie. "I feel so tiny. One sec." She shoots up about a foot in height, now notably taller than just about everyone her age and most adults too. "That's better."

[The Silent Sepulchre]

And so the fourth door, but perhaps not the final door, is opened.

Stillness without.

Tahara finds anything but.

In this tiny closet of a room she can feel the atoms vibrating. She can feel the world spinning below her feet. She can feel the planet screaming through the void as it relentlessly chases the sun. She can feel great teaming schools of stars churning around a cosmic whirlpool that's spinning so fast it rends the fabric of space.

Bigger and bigger.

Wider and wider.

Further and further until she glimpses a glimmer of the Motion that drives it.

It's too much.

It threatens to overwhelm, to wring her out like a towel being twisted to squeeze out the water.

Khannie does indeed vacate Mary's head, landing nearby and sitting down on her haunches, curling her tail around her feet like a huge green glitter lizardcat.

Then Mary's normal sized again!

But with feathers?

Sure, why not?

But also even taller. To which Khannie rolls her eyes. "I'm just glad you're gunna be okay," she says.

At the talk of star people Khannie gives the maybe-janitor another appraising look.

"I dunno, the star lady at the party seemed pretty scattered to me. I think that might just be a coincidence."

The fungi is mostly mindless, though Lia will find some rather interesting things about it anyway. This one isn't an eater of death, exactly. It eats corpses, but its tentacles bear a neurotoxin designed to paralyse animals. Once paralysed, it then spreads into the injury, and uses its mycelium to begin to feed. It's planted in place, at the moment, anchored the remains and rock around it, but it can detach its fruiting mass from the network keeping it steady and is capable of moving- though not quickly, nor elegantly. Enough to move to better hunting areas, or drag itself to a paralysed victim so it can better feed on their nutrients.
Sudden Cave

Lia can't help but feel a little disgust at the mushroom's feeding habits. The thought of consuming anything that's alive turns her stomach- not for any moral reasons, but because that would feel and taste repulsive to her. Still, the information is undoubtedly a good thing.

If animals are this thing's chosen prey, that increases the likelihood that there's a nearby surface entrance. Most caves are devoid of life, so there's likely a way in and out. Of course, there are exceptions, entire underground ecosystems of predator and prey. Far more likely, though, is a way out.

She'll cease messing with the mushroom, and send out a small cloud of exploratory spores. These make their way up towards the crack in the ceiling and slowly drift on through. They'll be able to pass along information to her, letting her know if it opens up further or if this is truly a dead end.

The wolf-sized mouse, let's just call it a wolf mouse for now, is not particularly willing to let go of Kestrel's leg, initially resisting the knee and holding on. The second she reaches for the knife, however, it's forced to let go, trying to angle its head out of the way to avoid the swipe, causing the knife to gouge into its shoulder, just missing the neck. And then that stubborn knee does its work, forcing the mouse staggering backwards, now bleeding from two wounds and looking a little more unsteady, a little warier and unsure if prey that fights back this much is worth pursuing.

It's not quite ready to give up yet though. Both mouse and shadow back off slightly, its tail and the shadow swishing in time with each other as it starts trying to circle round Kestrel, looking for an opening, seemingly wanting a chance to land a killing blow rather than risk more arrows or knives. It snarls at her, trying to look bigger and fiercer...and maybe trying to keep her focus on it rather than the shadow.
Overly Adventurous

Kestrel gasps in relief as the wolf mouse is finally dislodged, although much to her misfortune the sudden motion tears the knife from her grip. She stumbles back once more, clutching at her leg in pain, feeling the blood ooze beneath her hand. She backs off too, continuing her attempts to put some distance between her and the monster, eyes flickering looking for an opening. She can see she hurt the wolf mouse, and that plus it's snarl does indeed catch her attention. Maybe now was her chance! Or at least that's what she thinks, as she draws back to let another arrow fly its way.

Overly Adventurous

The wolf mouse's movements even seem to have slowed a little bit. It's going to have a harder time dodging another arrow, however fierce it may be trying to make itself!

...

The shadow also senses its opportunity and goes for it, stretching itself further to cover the distance between mouse and Kestrel, reshaping its end into three distinct claws that lash out, aiming to rake across Kestrel's chest and belly.

...

Somewhere above in one of the surrounding trees, a figure is watching Kestrel's battle with the wolf mouse and its shadow. He quietly mutters an incantation, releasing the spell to aid Kestrel just before the shadow's attempt to disembowel her.

Shit. Hiep was expecting something bad to be hiding here, but not this. Ironic, too, given who she is. But appropriate, given where they are. Now she feels a memory of an old lover corroding. One she would very much like to keep.

"We need to take this thing down quickly," she says, as if she was a hardened warrior rather than a janitor.

[On the Trail of the Lair]

Hiep is silent for a moment, then sputters.

"I- what? I had nothing to do with this. I have no idea who brought Mary here but if they're going to go around casting suspicions on me, they've got another thing coming."

"That's a pretty respectable size," Thariza says to Mary in the meantime. She's still taller than Mary, even with her hunched posture. "I guess if you can change shape now, something good came out of this mess."

"It's more than just an orb obviously considering how it changed your daughter. It's like a part of me. Much like a limb or an organ." Ambrosia explains to Sekhmet. "And I'm afraid that the thief might be able to use it to hurt me, or Mary as she's been infused with the essence." The dragon was speculating here but wasn't completely baseless and she knew that every mother wanted to know even of potential dangers to their child.

"So with Mary now being safe, I need to get it back." She looks to Hiep and Khannie. "Perhaps. Though what are your game then, lady of stars? I can tell that Mary is friends with the other one, and Sekhmet is of course her mother. But why are you here exactly?" The dragon's gaze returns to Sekhmet. "Is she in your service, lady Sekhmet? Since she seems a bit too old to hang out with your daughter."

[Running] - Open Scene

The underbrush stirs and erupts with motion. A small, darting shape with dingy brown fur streaks through the forests of Outside, trailing snapped twigs and fallen leaves as they run. They unknowingly travel in the general direction of civilization - Inside and Riverside somewhere ahead - but this shape moves with no clear goal in mind besides speed, hurtling at lethal paces down the soft trenches of riverbeds and over dense ridges of primordial rock. The rock emerges from the earth like blunted blades, huge crescents of stone at a steadily falling incline, unfolding from the nearest hilltop like petals of an igneous flower.

It's on one of these lower blades of stone, a plate-shaped outcrop dug into the mountain's foot and nearly level with the ground, that the small creature is caught. They reach the edge of the stone - and find it drops into something of a gorge, the perimeter festooned with loops and pigtails of green vines, the falling slopes of earth and gravel descending toward the sloshing notch of a small stream. The fleeing figure, a deer comparable in size to a small dog, turns left, turns right, begins to bolt at a new angle... and then stops.

Hooves slam down further up the plate of stone. Another figure has descended the hill. Then another. And a third. Altogether a host of five other creatures arrive, penning in the little beast. Four of them resemble rather large, red deer. The fifth is in the same family of animal - though of giant stature, being nearly seven feet tall at the shoulder. One of the red deer is badly scarred and gouged, missing an eye, one antler, and large swathes of fur in favor of truly vicious scars. Another wears a strange object around its neck - like a necklace made of square white charms.

The scarred beast steps out in front of the others as the smaller being, a pudu, shivers and cowers. The scarred one suddenly changes, a swirling sphere of motion resolving into the shape of a man, tall and muscled, clad in jerkin and segments of reddish metal plate. His armor, for a moment, seems to ripple and change, teeth sprouting, limbs forming to claw at the air as though alive. In his hand he whirls a sword, resolving from an unadorned grip of polished black stone to a blade that changes by gradients from onyx to a glowing, simmering, poisonous green color. It is curved inward on both sides in three even segments from hilt to tip, sketching a peculiar and irregular profile.

The man is no less ugly in his human form than he was as a deer. He wears a soft cloth mask festooned with teeth to hide his face - teeth of every shape and size, arranged in rows like gemstones woven into a work of savage art - but is still missing one eye, still scarred where his skin is exposed, and still missing one antler in what seems to be a permanent capacity.

The first man's voice is muffled only in a small way by the mask. He seems used to speaking into it. He is calm, and a little weary.

"End of the rope, little skaela."

The little pudu freezes. The man sighs.

"Change back. Drop it. Don't make us do this."

The pudu looks around for a way to flee, miniscule hooves tapping on stone. It edges toward the rim of the stone outcrop and the gorge below. The man takes one slow step forward, the sword leading him. Then another.

"Don't make me do this," He urges, more quietly this time.

[Running]

Deer aren't the only thing darting through the forests of Outside right now: they're also host to a blue humanoid robot in sporty clothing rushing through the trees at breakneck speeds. Like the cowering pudu, he gives no thought to where exactly his diamond-infused mechanical legs are taking him, but unlike any of the deer he's here purely to satisfy a natural craving for challenge and exploration.

Naturally, this desire for difficulty leads TASBot across the same soft trenches and towards the same rocky hillside as the pudu and his pursuers. The robot skids to a halt on the slope, having noticed the congregation just as he'd crested the hill.

There were still quite a few things TASBot didn't know about organic animals, but he knew for sure that anyone who would threaten one with a sword at the edge of a cliff was not to be trusted. As such, he wasn't going to sit around and let this happen - as if he ever needed an excuse to not sit around. The android's metal hands inch ever so slightly towards the fraternal twin guns strapped to either side of his shorts, but they stop as soon as they'd started. Better to use his words first - though with the look of the guy doing the actual dirty work, weapons might not be far behind.

"Don't make you do what?" TASBot asks in a mock-curious voice from his position behind the swordsman and his buddies. "It doesn't seem like you're being made to do anything," he continues, invisibly bracing himself for some kind of fight since these types usually hate to be interrupted.

Rarely, if ever, does one in the heat of the chase pay attention to the local flora. Maybe to search for signs of passing at most. Branches broken, tufts of fur caught, a melody of traces. Notes in the song of fear sung by prey.

But encrusting fungus on the underside of branches is rarely worth a first look, let alone a second.

In a calmer situation the oragish tooth fungus wavering with heat and shedding the occasional ember might warrant curiosity, but not now. And likely none would suspect to be regarded by a mushroom with curiosity, but the Nexus is a curious place, isn't it?

As the tiny deer at the edge of a cliff is cornered a single glowing ember drifts downward, alighting gently on her ear. With it's touch a voice brushes against her mind, more impressions than words.

~Help is coming. Stand firm. Don't fear. Be ready.~

Asami is many things, but first and foremost, a child. A child that loves to play in the woods and look at bugs and such. Her clothing didn't change much, still dressed for the cold and wearing the gloves Darko gifted her at Thanksmas. Of note, however, was the hunting knife holstered around her waist and small pouch on the opposite side.

Its not unusual, either, for her to notice groups of people gathered around. In the city, her senses are overloaded with myriad crowds of people with extraordinary powers. In the forest, however, she can stake out her prey a mile away. Thus, while chasing a ladybug, she'd catch sight of the fleeing pudu and its pursuers shortly afterwards. Uneased, she secretly followers them from a distance, moving from bush to bush like a gust of wind until they suddenly stop, Asami having found a hiding place nearby to observe the confrontation. Mainly, she was keeping her wits about her to not get spotted as opposed to actually be raring to come to the rescue here.

On the Trail of the Lair
"I could always do that," Mary mentions offhandedly to Thariza.

"She's a tracker who volunteered her services," Sekhmet explains Hiep's presence to Ambrosia. "As far as I know, she's not related to what happened."
"That's right," Mary chimes in, "The star lady who was playing tricks on me was different. She didn't look like a real person, and she seemed... Weird. Crazy. Like she didn't know how people worked." If Libra wants to object to Mary's statements, no one can stop her.

Khannie nods at that description and gestures towards Hiep. "She's just one of the janitors at our school. The person who was messing with Mary was definitely some sorta otherworldly trickster. Kinda like how Myxzptlk is always bugging Super Man."

Of all the people here Mary is likely the only one who will know what Khannie is talking about here. She has definitely compared her mother to the higher dimensional imp before and then afterwards explained the comic to Mary.

[Running]

The pudu's ear flicks. It looks wildly around, as though hearing an invisible voice. If its invisible benefactor can sense its thoughts in turn, the pudu is certainly intelligent, and certainly very frightened. It doesn't seem very believing that help is coming...

At least until that metal fellow up the hill appears.

All eyes turn to TASBot - except for those of the swordsman. His attention remains squarely on the pudu, as though he takes the little creature very seriously. His sword is pointed at her, just a few feet away. "Mensei?" He asks. "Who is that?"

The other deer change. In their places stand four more humanoids. Only one of them lacks antlers - a woman in a loose tunic beneath a sweep of thin white cloak, styled with curling fingers of gold thread. The material is mesmerizing, like mist taken solid form, and it catches even the little bit of sun available on this semi-overcast day. The woman has full lips, marked with a single bar of white paint in their center, and the gently curved ball of a well-shaped chin... and the rest of her face is entirely covered, hidden by a bizarre five-spoked mask. Each spoke or spike is made of a different kind of colorful glass - orange, yellow, blue, green, and purple. She looks slightly taken aback when she looks at TASBot.

"It's-- some kind of construct, Savath! The things they say about the Other World are true! Like the spiders make, only..."

"Only made of steel," grunts the largest man, who was a prehistoric stag only a moment ago. He swells to a giant's height, nearly seven and a half feet tall, his face hidden by what appears to be a hollowed bear's skull he sports like a mask. He is unadorned save for a pair of heavy sackcloth trousers, thin wrappings like black bandages, and coils of metal that curl around - and into - the flesh of his brawny bare arms. Various charms hang from his body by chains - including several sets that resemble thorns, or iron stakes. He is painted with rows and rows of red body paint. He appears unarmed. And finally, his gigantic antlers - two huge wings of branching bone - extend nearly three full feet from either side of his head, even in human form.

When the big one speaks, he has a dense, muddy, difficult to interpret accent - one a person from Earth might recognize as in the same lingual family as Irish. "Hmn. Brought all this way because the little skaela might have friends waiting. Finally something interesting."

"It's not a friend, Riacan- It doesn't think," says the woman, Mensei. "Iron spirit, this being is of our ken, and is a most heinous thief. She has committed sins I can scarcely describe. Go and tell your master this, before you would aid her."

"If you are guarding your master's property," says Savath, the swordsman, raising his voice so TASBot can hear, "We'll be gone in a moment."

"I smell someone," says one of the remaining warriors - formerly a slender red deer and now an antlered man wearing a stitched, eyeless mask and armor similar to Savath's, albeit in a more slender style, and with the addition of a stylish single-shoulder cape in marbled red. The man, whose eyes and head are sealed by leather but whose dark-skinned nose and mouth are exposed, lifts his face to the air. "Someone else. Close."

The whole group tenses - save the last, who remains still and silent, another figure in strange armor - save that this armor covers everything, mouth, nose, ears and all, save the discolored antlers protruding from his or her head. No one seems to be sure of Asami's position, but she might get the feeling they're talking about her. Perhaps they are only noticing the odd fungal stench...

Stench might not be the right word.

There is a smell in the air.

A smell of fire. Not some dusty, smokey campfire. Bright fire, hot and fierce, like what might come billowing out of a kiln burning char to heat iron. As the cervine folk have been moving deeper into the forest the smell has be growing stronger. There's something mingled with it, though. Something like them, but surely alien. There's an unsettling feeling in this forest quite suddenly.

Of being watched.

Of being considered.

It just isn't terribly likely that they would connect the scent and the sensation would be tied to the strange fungus encrusting the underside of so many tree limbs here in the woods. Though considering that the interior of the mushrooms glow with dull heat maybe they will make the connection.

As the hunting party speaks with the chomeling the voice deepens, words taking more coherent form.

~I am Solahart and these woods are my home; I touch the roots of every tree and every flower that grows here.~

There's an impression of something vast and spreading, growing through the earth under the pudu's hooves like delicate spider's webs glowing with heat.

~Your presence here is like a beacon, little one. There are others who are being drawn to this unfolding story. Be ready to plead your cause.~

Greater Sattleborough

Samantha yelps as the carriage careens around the corner, potentially scraping its sides against the alleyway's walls. She's avoiding the blade of the scythe mostly through chance than any effort on her end. She'll scramble back up and around to look out the rear window, to see if the Juggernaut takes the bait or if it's continuing to follow.

Fortunately, it seems to be working; the Juggernaut rumbles past the end of the alley and doesn't turn to follow. Indeed, it gets quieter as it travels further away.

Sudden Cave

The crack does open up, eventually, into the surface. But that's at least four metres straight up, and the crack is never wider than twenty centimetres. Unless Lia is exceptionally spongy and flexible, that's not really an ideal way out. Perhaps leaving another exit is elsewhere in this cave.

Everyone getting all tense was an immediate cause for anxiety for Asami. She raises her hands in the air and stands up, exclaiming, "Just a child here!"

She was a little over 127 cm and appeared perfectly human, save for the glowing corona of sunlight around her.

TASBot watches warily as the 'deer' before him shift into more humanoid forms. He isn't a stranger to the concept of shapeshifting, but he remembers hearing somewhere that only particularly powerful shapeshifters can change their colour scheme when they switch. Or was it only a certain type of shapeshifter? Either way, it wouldn't deter the blue robot, and since the figures seem to be somewhat willing to talk it out, TASBot keeps speaking.

"I'm my own master," TASBot quickly corrects Mensei and Savath, "and I think I'm a fine friend too, for what it's worth." It seems to the robot that machines wherever these guys come from don't enjoy the same freedoms that they do where he's from.

"Anyways, I like to trust other people, but even I'm doubting that the terrified creature you guys have chased into a dead end is actually a being of indescribable sin. Even if it's also a shapeshifter, like you said, it's not even holding any stolen items. From where I'm standing, this is a couple of bored bullies engaging in their weekly forest mugging. Ganging up five-on-one isn't a good look for anyone, you know." TASBot crosses his arms to show his disapproval at the gang of five as he addresses them.

On hearing a child's voice off in another direction, TASBot takes only a short glance, not wanting to take his optic sensors off of the masked shapeshifters for too long. "Do your parents know you're here?" he calls out, hoping the kid will take the hint and get going - he doesn't want an innocent-seeming child to get inadvertently wrapped up in a scene like this.

Hiep is ready to defend herself again, but it seems Sekhmet, Mary and Khannie are willing to vouch for her. Alright, could be worse.

"Yes, what they said. I wasn't aware of anyone else there who could track someone that had vanished into thin air. So I had to step up." She punches her open palm. "But I'm still going to find her and kick her in the head until she stops doing this kind of thing. On general principle."

The dragon gives Hiep a skeptical look but nonetheless gives her a nod of acknowledgement. "Very well, I will take your word for it then. But if you want to find this 'star woman' may I suggest following the trail of the orb? It seems likely that she's involved in its theft in one way or another and I can find out where it is. Though circumstances prevents me from seeking it out. At least like this."

She turns to Sekhmet. "Speaking of, may I speak to you and your daughter in private please? I have some information about your daughters condition." Among other things.

If anyone in the group has a sense of such things they might get the feeling they're being watched by something or someone which isn't one of the nearby cows. Though they are staring at them too, seemingly unbothered by the presence of a dragon or three. Might be the little farm house nearby or some invisible spirit nearby. Since this place certainly isn't lacking in those.

"Just for me she got it worst, but do you still got the curse as well?" he asks. "I guess a high skilled mage would be able to identify it and in the best case decurse it. Thought the information about it might be more then enougth to find a cure."
[Riftline]

Violeta Escarlate listens, and nods. "Your explanation makes sense. Also, suppressing is better than nothing, even if it doesn't solve it then at least it'll buy me time. When I asked a witch to look at her, the witch said the reason why it's so dangerous right now is because she's still a baby and her body's not strong enough yet. Suppressing it might help her recover enough to regain her strength."

Yes his method would absolutely help, getting rid of the worst and most immediate effects and give her body time to recover. Right now, Violeta's daughter's time left can be measured in days or weeks...but even if Zefir can only suppress part of it for a few weeks, that would give Violeta up to a year (or maybe even two years!) to find another solution.

Honestly, that's why this train stopping was so devastating for her.

"Um, I haven't checked but I'm almost certain I'm still affected by the curse," Violeta says after some thought, "but it's affecting me less since I'm an adult. Yeah, that's a great idea, instead of bringing somone all the way back, I can just have them check me. And if they can cure the curse on me, then I can bring them back to help her."

Violeta smiles.
Honestly, she's finally starting to feel a little hope. "I guess my goddess must've set things up to get the train stopped," she says offhandedly. Then, she tells Zefir, I'll make sure to pay you whatever I can if you can suppress it, even a little, for my daughter."

After a few moments, there's another train announcement over the intercoms: help is arriving. In fact, the first offroad truck arrived and more are on the way. The train conductor requests everyone remain seated and don't rush: it will be fine, and they'll start the evacuation from the back of the train. And everyone should evacuate in an orderly manner.

Across the train car, there's a sigh of relief. Most of the people stay seated as instructed, but a few (including the aristocats from earlier!) get up and announce how they're moving to the back so they can get evacuated first.

On the Trail of the Lair
"Of course." Sekhmet beckons Mary over and they both will follow Ambrosia into a private place.
"What is it?"
Both demons seem concerned. Whatever this is, it must be important.

[Running]

The pudu suddenly changes, unfolding into the shape of a rather small, slender young woman in dark clothes. She clutches a bag of soft green material with a dangling strap. Her clothes are torn and ragged in places, her arms and feet are bare, and she sports a boyish haircut shaved very tight around her pale head. Her face is painted with seemingly random sigils and signs in blue, red, and white, including one across her brow, cheek, and the lid of her left eye which resembles a thorned double-loop - an 8, or perhaps eternity. She retains the small ears and antlers of a pudu in her human form.

"I-I hear a god!" She babbles suddenly, nervous, clutching the bag, using her body to partly shield it from Savath. "There is a forest god here! All 'round! He is coming! You'd better leave or you'll be sorry, Savath! You were right to be afraid!" She bares her teeth as sweat rolls from her temple to her cheek. "I do have friends here! And they're bigger than yours! Haha!"

Savath looks briefly surprised at this - but edges a step closer regardless. The group of pursuers struggle to reckon with so many new developments and targets. Asami steps out and is noted, with Mensei (the woman in the misty cloak) turning to face her in particular.

"You had better run along home, girl. The steel-face is right. The forest is no place for children," says she, trying to maintain and extend a blanket of calm over her companions. Her voice brooks no argument, but she doesn't seem to hold any particular malice toward Asami or anyone.

"Any truth to what the skaela says, Lidoro?" Savath asks. He feels suddenly... ill at ease.

The thin man with the half-cape lifts his nose again. "There's... something... strange. Like a burning battlefield. I'm not sure..."

Savath's armor snarls and claws at the air, biting off chunks of empty space, teeth forming from leather and steel before clamping shut. Dark gaps form and yawn and disappear as quickly as popping bubbles.

"Machines that speak, and feign a soul," Riacan, the giant, muses from inside his bear-skull helm. "A land of strange blasphemies. And now he impugns our honor! Savath, let me dispose of him."

"Peace," Savath sighs. "Metal thing, I'll warn you this once. Intrude on our labors at your peril. Riacan. Chase him away, that's all."

Riacan snorts, shrugs, and starts up the hill, leaping with simian agility to the nearest upper ledge of rock and hauling himself atop it. His attention all focused on TASBot for the moment.

"And as for you and your rogue god..." Savath turns his blade aside and suddenly takes two quick steps toward the 'skaela'. "Give that here!"

"No!" The 'skaela'/pudu-woman darts to one side along the rim of the ledge - though whether she'll escape Savath's reach is yet to be seen. "Help me lord!"

[Running]

Moments ago, a single ember had drifted down from a mushroom growth on the underside of a branch. It had alight upon the pudu's ear and spoken to her. When the mushroom drops its spores again it isn't just one this time. A great cloud of them is puffed forth and the cloud moves not with the capricious whims of the cold winter breeze, but rather with intent. They stream down between Savath and the 'skaela', forming a curtain so hot that it cause the air to waver like a mirage.

And then it gets hotter.

A crackling, rumbling sound akin to roaring thunder reverberates from the screen as the air ionizes and glows with incandescence. Somehow both of the deer-folk aren't cooked where they stand, the heat contained within the screen, but trying to step through it would quite possibly result in being incinerated. Or at the very least burned grievously.

The crackle of thunder isn't the only noise that pours forth from the curtain of heat.

There's an order the sound that quickly resolves into a voice that sounds precisely like what you might expect a wall of fire to utter.

"There will be no violence in my woods. Plead your cause and I will hear you," the sheet of flames roars.

The crack does open up, eventually, into the surface. But that's at least four metres straight up, and the crack is never wider than twenty centimetres. Unless Lia is exceptionally spongy and flexible, that's not really an ideal way out. Perhaps leaving another exit is elsewhere in this cave.
Lia sighs in frustration. She can transform her body into a cloud of spores, but it's a last resort. Last time she did it, it was only because she was already dying. So the crack is a no go. She calls back her spores, reabsorbing them. Surely there's another, easier way out.

Leaving the patch of mushrooms behind, she begins to feel her way back down the tunnel, trying to figure out if there's any side passages that go a different route than the way she came.

[Running]

Asami keeps her hands held up so long as attention is kept on her, nervously looking to the left and right. "Uhh... Uhm... No parents!" she weakly calls back.

She shrinks back a bit as she's urged to leave, but the wall of flame calms her nerves a bit. She casually walks into the fire, standing in the middle of it to warm herself up. "I mean... Its a forest. There are no gates or anything, I'm allowed to be here," she rationalizes.

Sudden Cave

It's not too long before the cave opens out again into the large space Lia first appeared in, though unless she's got lost she's not on the same wall. She hopefully has continued around the dead end to come out on the other side, so the same tendrils are touching the wall as before. It's sloping down, still, but sticking to the wall may well be the smarter play. The stone is terraced a little, and Lia may stumble on hidden rises and dips, limestone ridges running along the floor and walls.

[On the Trail of a Lair]

They walk off some distance from Hiep and Khannie. Though Thariza is welcome to come along should she wish to.
"Now, I never actually introduced myself by name but Mary nonetheless learned of it so I might as well clarify a few things." The dragon looks to Mary.
"Your mother and I have actually meet one another before, in VIGIL. I went under the same name that Thariza knows me, 'Ambrosia'." Sekhmet might recall the lady wearing a storm cloud as a boa.
"The reason I'm telling you this is since I'd like to ask you to keep what I am a secret. As in, a dragon. I know that dragons are aren't treated too differently from anyone else in the nexus but too me I still consider it important for my own health that its kept a secret."
