That is a bizarre apparatus. And Kothar, while heavily armed, is not equipped for demolition. "Where power thing?" Khannie was able to shut the last one off, can she find a way to shut this off too? He hopes so because he doesn't like his odds of bringing this whole thing down on his own.

Forsaken Cathedral
Well. That's disappointingly easy.

Charcoal moves to go back to work, but her eyes stay fixed on Miranda, like she's making sure her companion is okay. Their eyes meet for a brief moment.

And the mind within the relic gives them each a little push.
Come on Miranda, you know what this feeling is - like you want to ask someone to push you off a cliff, but when you start to speak, your mouth explodes with spiders. (No, that's not literal, thank goodness)
And she can see Charcoal's eyes widen, and for the first time, a blush comes to the succubus' face. She knows, and she feels the same way.
And Sapphira mentally smiles. What happens next should be entertaining.

[Dysphotic Swamp]

Pretty much guaranteed something weird will happen if Seraphina gets on the train. Sure, the one time Khannie went with Seraphina something weird happened. But from Seraphina's perspective, something weird has happened all but once when she's gone on the train.

The smell coming from the direction of the weeping tree isn't exactly like the black goop. It's similar, sure, but sweeter and slightly less rotten.
And that particular source is moving away from the tree and is now completely downwind from where they are. The tree itself doesn't have any weird fruit on it, or anything that simple, unfortunately. Luckily, it seems to not have been the source of the smell but rather just had been the hiding spot of the source.

"...Yeah," Seraphina says. She wasn't exactly considering making a sled but instead tying the woman to her back. But, since Khannie mentioned it and now that she thinks about it, it would be good to have a sled-thing but also with the option to carry her. The sled would work better on the muddy ground for maneuverability reasons, while carrying would be better in the deeper water. "Shouldn't take too long."

Seraphina considers giving the flashlight to Khannie, but then figures she probably doesn't need it.

"I imagine it'll take me...five minutes," Seraphina says after a little bit of thought.
"Tarp. Sleeping bag to soften. Ropes. Weight distribution. Knife ready, maybe holes along. Tent poles to keep from twisting up," the redhead says to herself, to help mentally visualize what she wants the makeshift sled to look like. She grabs a knife from her small pack.

She goes to the tent, and starts pulling up things, cutting and tearing cloth, and putting things together. Most of the actual ropes were used on the hanging tree, so Seraphina has to improvise using tent cloth.

The source of the second, sweeter smell is downwind, and becomes more muted again.
But, as Khannie keeps watch, there's suddenly a new smell! Or, rather, an old smell. One that matches the black zombie gunk almost perfectly, approaching from the southwest, with no regard for wind direction or anything.

Looking along the ground or water won't help find the source, however. There's a black slime creature climbing along the trees from branch to branch, coming directly towards the elevated clearing they're at. If there's any good thing about it, it's not particularly fast. And the camping spot was in a small clearing. But it definitely smells like the floral death of the half-orc's wound.

Counting the hanging tree and the still-twitching zombie corpse, there seems to be three potential threats around them, but the black slime seems likely to be the most urgent at the moment. Let's hope Khannie has experience with dealing with slimes.

[Forsaken Cathedral]

It's the heat.

It has to be.

The heat, or dehydration, mixing somehow with that little aspect of succubus-ness that Miranda has in her. Sekhmet told her how they subsist. Being so tired and hungry and low on every resource her body needs must be interacting strangely with her demonic aspect's desire to feed. She'll... she'll be fine after resting. Handling those things the way she's supposed to, as opposed to the way her venom-addled brain is telling her to.

...Unless...

No. That thought needs to get out her head pronto. Their priority is escaping, not messing around with each other. Besides, she doesn't even like other women. At least she doesn't think she does. She never really has before. Her relationships with Rose and Eun were both quite platonic; familial, maybe, at most. Sekhmet herself didn't get this sort of response out of her, either, and she's the literal queen of-

...Sapphira.

Miranda must not have stopped her in time. The ex-queen was messing with her head via her succubus aspect. Who's to say that what she did was only temporary? She's clearly been able to permanently transform people in the past; Miranda must have interrupted her partway through the process, when the mental changes were partly done and the physical hadn't quite caught up yet. That... might have included an orientation shift, right? She has yet to hear about succubi being all that picky about their partners, with Sekhmet herself being the exception that proved the general rule. And why would they be? If they derived sustenance from... that, then it wouldn't make sense for them to have something as limiting as single-sex attraction.

That has to be it.

Miranda massages her shoulders and returns her attention to the carbon recycler, watching the lights ping back and forth. Now that she has an explanation for it, she can start pushing it deep down in her subconscious where she puts her other bothersome feelings.

Of course, there's only so much room.

"...I miss Quire." She mutters out loud, barely audible.
Who're you? ...Don't matter.

Want some rye? Course ya do!

Here's to us!
Who's like us?

[Dysphotic Swamp]

It could just be a thing with Seraphina and trains, since Khannie used to ride on Riftline pretty much every single day and nothing weird ever happened.

Or, well, nothing weird by Nexus standards.

A few weird things still happened by they weren't dangerous weird things. Like that one time a whole mariachi band of yaks got on the train and started playing. Not like... yak people. Just regular yaks. In mariachi outfits.

Khannie would be pretty okay with that kind of weirdness instead of this kind.

Anywho!

One of Khannie's ears swivels to track the source of the retreating sweet smell. She can hardly make it out and it's pretty clear that whatever it is happens to be smart and is trying to prevent itself from being noticed. Or tracked. Or something like that. She knows it was there, though. And when Seraphina speaks up Khannie replies by making some zoroark noises at her and making a thumb's up gesture. She could use her illusions to do a ghost-voice but animal sounds and hand-gestures are enough to get the idea across.

Five minutes.

Cool.

But now something rotten is headed their way. Directly toward them. Which is potentially bad. This one isn't trying to be sneaky in so far as Khannie can tell. And the first thing Khannie wants to figure out is what it is, what it can do, and how smart it is.

So?

She draws on the darkness that's so abundant here and waves it into a simulacrum of Seraphina, two wisps of purple and black flame igniting at the ends of two tails as she does. It's just a simple one. Visual and olfactory only. And then she sends the phantom walking off toward the approaching rotten smell source.

C'mon.

Take the bait you gross rotter.

[Neon Forest]

"I'm not sure," Khannie admits as she approaches the strange, self contained factory. "There's gotta be one around somewhere, though."

Somewhere.

But where?

She begins walking around the parameter of the machine, boggling at the thing. Everything down here is on such a scale and operating at such a level of complexity that it may as well be magic, right? She's pretty sure it isn't but it sure FEELS that way sometimes. Hmm... It looks like there's an entrance over there. Maybe that's what they're looking for? A control room of some kind?

Khannie heads that way and soon our heroes will find themselves in...

A break room?

Maybe?

Soft green grass is growing from top of most surfaces, smooth metal walls and platforms making up the bounds of the room. There are a few tables littered with odds and ins as well as a bulky, rectangular device that looks kind of like the copy machines from the library. If the copy machines were covered in vines and served some ineffable purpose. Most notably, there's a tall, glossy black machine sporting glowing magenta ring on the front. Almost like some kind of high tech snack dispenser or refrigerator or something.

Through a hole in the ceiling our heroes will be able to see a large, roughly spheroid device full of florescent blue fluid with hoses leading away from it to other parts of the facility. It definitely LOOKS important. Several refreshingly normal looking cabinets are set up against the wall, promising the enticing possibility of loot.

Also?

There's a pair of human skeletons at one of the tables, one leaning back over a chair and the other draped across the table in front of it. Unlike Khannie they do not smell like the walking dead. Neither of the skeletons show any obvious sign of wounds.

"I don't think this is what we're looking for but it might still have useful stuff?" Khannie ventures as she approaches the large copymachine/chest or whatever it is and starts trying to figure out what it is or how to open it. "These bunkers have always got skeletons laying around. I don't know if the weapons killed them or if it was something else."

That comment sounds...

Kind of sad?

There's some measure of regret that she couldn't have done something to help them. It's silly. They were probably dead a long time before this place fell into the Nexus. It isn't like she was probably even alive yet.

Hiep climbs up the rooster's flank, grasping the feathers and seemingly having little fear of the cuts. When they do bite into her skin, they don't do so as deeply as one might expect. Nevertheless, her fingers bleed but she bears it with stoic acceptance. When she reaches the bird's back, she tries to run up to its head and give it a roundhouse kick.
Earl of Purple wrote: Dec 22, 2022 2:00 pm Harriet is able to dodge most of the stomps, trying to stay under the rooster's bulk where it can't see her as easily. There's still a gash opened up down her leg through the Vault suit where she doesn't quite dodge fast enough, blood and radiation ticking from her wound. She's too busy to swing the disc mace at the rooster's legs, but does direct another beam of heat and radiation up at the rooster above. She's relying on the fact that, to her knowledge, radiation kills everything that isn't a robot. Whilst that's not true where she comes from and not true here, it's more true than false.
Trying to hide under the rooster's own bulk is not the worst plan, but the point is somewhat ruined if Harriet tells exactly where she is by whacking its legs. Or at least she hopes it feels her blows, right? It's not easy to tell. Hitting its legs feels like trying to fell a redwood tree with a mallet.

Worse, if she's close enough to hit the rooster's legs, its legs are close enough to hit her, and the force behind its movements is great enough to pose a danger even when its not trying to step on her on purpose. The risk realizes itself when the beast suddenly staggers and take several cross steps to retain balance, result of Hiep kicking the side of its head.

Annoyed by the pest clinging to its plumage, the roosters bristles its feathers and starts hopping around to throw Hiep off. If that isn't enough, it runs to the edge of the clearing and rams its head against one of the trees still standing, trying to scrape Hiep off that way.

Unfortunate. She already caught on that something is wrong. Making any more sudden moves might reveal the origin of the effect. So the relic will just stay put and gradually turn up the metaphorical heat.

Accept death when it comes.

Ha.

From talking with other ghost types it sounds like they're alive, just in a really weird not quite alive sort of way.

Like zombies.

Or magical girls.

"I dunno what that even means for me," Khannie admits with a sigh. "I met a guy once who had the job of taking spirits to... wherever it is they're supposed to go. He said it wasn't my time yet."

What would her time even be?

She has no idea. She hasn't even got a heartbeat.

Khannie glances up at the paladin, uncertainly in her eyes. "Should we... bury these guys or something? Is that a thing holy knights do?"

Thankfully, the literal heat seems pretty well dealt with.

Which makes it a bit bizarre that, a few hours later, Miranda still hasn't bothered to print off any clothing for herself. Granted, it might be difficult to change into anything with the climbing harness already on her, but she might consider it worth the effort for the bits of rubble that keep falling down on her. That certainly qualifies as enough motivation to put down a couple of blankets, at least; when Charcoal inevitably takes her rest, Miranda wants her to do it free of falling particulates.

And she is going to insist that Charcoal take her rest. After sleeping for eight hours, Miranda's going to hopefully see some impressive(ish) progress on the succubus's part, and will climb up to let her know that it's time to switch places.

Eight meters might not sound like much of a climb, but when she can only go a few inches at a time, it's going to seem to stretch on forever.

As Khannie tracks the location of the sweet smell, it might be possible to also track the sound of water movement and mud squishes in that same direction. To be honest, it'd be pretty hard since it's not particularly loud, comparable to the branches swishing in the water or the grasses moving around or Seraphina cutting the tent or other things like that. It is there, it's just very small in comparison. Only really distinguishable since Khannie's already paying attention in that direction.

It would be unfair to say the slime-thing isn't trying to be sneaky at all. After all, it's up in the tree branches. Not that many people look upwards to look for predators.
Although, she's correct that in that's all it's doing.

As soon as the simulacrum appears, the black slime reroutes to go directly towards the illusion. It speeds up in its tree-travel, to catch up with the simulacrum.

Once it's above it, it starts dripping the same black gunk that was cleaned out of the half-orc's wound. It particularly tries to drip them on the head of the simulacrum, and continues following it so long as it remains below trees.

That statement rings true. "Then it good, you not quite dead." He shakes his head. "My people bury dead in swamp, but I not know these people's way." In other words, he worries it would be disrespectful to use the wrong funerary rites.

Forsaken Cathedral
The newly formed, sloped passage gives them more space to move around.
Charcoal, reluctantly sits down to let Miranda take a turn working. There's really no need. She doesn't need to eat or drink, she doesn't need air, and she doesn't get tired.
Although she does feel a bit hungry in her unusual way, and Miranda has plenty of life force... But she also needs to keep Miranda alive and not weaken her in this already dangerous environment.

The relic shifts its attention to Charcoal for now, trying to break down that mental barrier to draining her companion.
After all, if Charcoal took some of Miranda's lifeforce, she could work more effectively and Miranda wouldn't have to do any work herself, she could just rest.

[Forsaken Cathedral]

It's not as though Miranda isn't a tempting target for the more mundane reasons, either. Despite their present conditions, she's fit and healthy, and that only becomes more apparent the longer she chips away at the tunnel; she's making smooth, rhythmic motions with her arms and back, still covered in sweat (though to a much more moderate degree now), breathing deeply and evenly, in a lightly labored fashion, and of course, is still as naked as the day she was born, provided she was born with a climbing harness.

She'd hardly even miss the extra vitality, would she? Charcoal would probably only have to do it the one time and then they'd have two healthy diggers for the entirety of the project. And if she doesn't get some "food" in her soon, it's Miranda who will have to look out for her, isn't it? She'd be doing the agent a favor.

Miranda certainly seems to be entertaining the idea. Almost. Every hour or so, when she goes to take a break, she'll sprawl herself out, look back at Charcoal, and... stare. A bit too long and intensely to be strictly because she's the only other person there.

And then she says something that sounds like a hint.

"So... I don't think I ever asked. Do you have... someone, down in the Depths? Boyfriend? Girlfriend? Husband, wife?"

When the rooster starts running towards the treeline, Hiep leaps off its head, somehow lands sideways on a tree and pushes herself outwards. Then gravity reasserts itself and she slams her feet into the rooster's head just as it nears the tree.

As the giant rooster stumbles, Harriet dives to one side and drops her disc-mace, narrowly avoiding being trampled by the giant bird.

Now it's over there, she's in less immediate danger, and Harriet takes a moment to grab her mace before finding the tip of her spear where the red-hot tip is smouldering the earth and grabs the heated metal and pulls it up. Despite the obvious discomfort touching red-hot metal should cause, she's apparently unharmed and unconcerned by it.

That gets a small smile out of Khannie.

Not quite dead yet.

Sure.

She'll take what she can get.

"I guess different people have got different ways of taking care of dead folks," Khannie muses as she finally gets around to messing with that big chest... copier... whatever it is. After hunting around on the sides for a bit she find some latches that pop open, followed by a hiss of decompressing air when the lid flips up. And inside?

"Oh score!"

Canisters. Spray cans. Patches. It's all medical stuff!

"This is all things for healing," Khannie says as she begins gathering up the material and loading it into her backpack. "It isn't magical, I don't think? Just regular medicine."

Granted in some settings there isn't any real distinction between magic and medicine.

[Dysphotic Swamp]

Sweet.

Whatever that goopy thing up in the canopy is it isn't smart enough to realize a person just appearing out of nowhere and walking around is weird. So they're probably dealing with something of animal level intelligence. That doesn't make it less dangerous, just easier to trick. Hopefully if Khannie keeps her illusion walking around in circles that'll keep it away from them until they can move out.

Khannie would rather avoid getting into a fight with the dripper while the sneaker is still sneakin' around somewhere. If she ran off to try fighting the drippy thing the sneaky less rotty thing might attack Seraphina.

So best be on guard!

Khannie conjures up a ghostly voice to talk with, a wisp of spectral flame igniting at the end of a third tail. "Hey there's some kinda drippy monster up in the trees. And I think whatever made that splash is tryin' to hide. I've got the drippy thing chasing a phantom but I dunno exactly where the splashy one is."

The zoroark's ghostly voice sounds kinda spooky. She's doing her best not to seem TOO scary and creepy. Surely the clothing and good grooming and the big purple bow in her hair helps, right? Sadly in spite of all of that she still has a very 'hungry famine ghost' vibe to her.

The goopy thing is, after all, just a base slime. Zombifies things, sure, but its species has never needed to actually be smart. Search for a food source, follow it, put zombie pheromone gunk on it, follow it back to its home, and then eat everything at its home, then repeat. Just add a dash of 'staying out of reach of its predators' and then you have this slime.

It keeps on following the illusion around and around, expecting the illusion to lead it to more of its kind.

Meanwhile, the splashy monster is...likely still lying around in wait. The more time that passes, the harder it is to tell if it's left unnoticed or if it just is continually finding better hiding spots.

When the famine ghost speaks to with the ghostly voice, Seraphina jumps.
Haha.
Ha.
Right, illusions. It's not spooky swamp ghosts suddenly appearing and speaking while she's worried about tree zombies and sneaky smelly splashy ambush predators and trying to find the way out of this swamp.

"Oh! Um...thanks for the update," Seraphina says after she realizes who's talking to her. "I'm making good progress," she adds.

She pauses for a few moments while tying something together, then adds: "Hey, Khannie, by chance, can you see any yellow or orange ribbons out there? Probably in a tree, eye-level. I found a bag of ribbons and I'm wondering if they were using them to mark the path they followed."

In fact!
There's both a yellow and three orange ribbons! In different spots. Not right by the camp clearing, but still visible from the camp clearing. They're even slightly reflective when light's shone on them.
Yellow ribbon is in the general direction the injured woman was found. One orange in the direction the slime came from, another to the north, and the last in some other direction.
Seems to be some ink on each, too, but they're not exactly easy to see from this distance.

[Dysphotic Swamp]

Khannie doesn't know it's a base slime.

She probably wouldn't even be sure of what the difference is between a base slime and an acidic slime. Would you like it to find out? If it's sour then it's an acid slime. If it's bitter and soapy then it's a base slime. Or something.

Anyway!

"I don't think the goopy thing is going to follow us, I've got it wandering in circles," the ghostly voice replies. "And I can see some ribbons around. I think they might've been for a... thing? Like a study thing. Like the ribbons you find tied out in the woods sometimes."

Usually brightly colored ribbons means someone is doing science and needs to mark stuff.

"Hey, how much longer do you think that's gunna take? I'm not sure if the splashy thing is still around or just holding still," Khannie warns as the zoroark moves a bit closer to where Seraphina is. It feels cold around the ghostly pokemon. And smells of fox and, vaguely, frozen meat.

With luck the dumb slim will just keep going in circles until Khannie allows the phantom to fade. By then they'll probably be far away where it won't be able to smell Seraphina's living person flesh.

Hiep briefly stops the rooster's rampaging when she launches straight against it. It spreads its wings halfway and takes two steps backwards to refind its balance.

Behind it, Harriet recovers her weapons in relative safety. She might notice some faint smoke rising from amidst the splinters, where fragments of her bullets fell. She might also notice the ground is drier than expected, not just immediately around her spear, but all around.

This clearing is a wildfire waiting to happen.

"Oh, good," not having to worry about the goopy thing is good. "So they were scientists? Probably investigating things around the swamp, then." Well, that's good, then. Likely weren't here lost, too. If the half-orc woman wakes up again, she'd probably know the best way out of this swamp.

Seraphina recognizes the smell of frozen meat but has trouble placing it since it's not a particularly pugnent one.

"Just a minute longer, if everything goes well," Seraphina responds. Khannie will be able to see the sled thing is practically done, she's just stress testing it to make sure it'll work.

She keeps on working for the next minute, and since Khannie is here, Seraphina says, "Hey, do me a favor?" She gestures at the straps she got to pull. "I'll kneel on this, so pull it for a couple seconds, 'kay?"
She kneels on the bed part to check how it feels when loaded.
After that, they can try to put the injured woman on it and head out in some direction.

"We don't really... Do that." Much like she's the only succubus or incubus into something more specific than "has a soul," Sekhmet also seems to be the only one in a committed relationship of any kind, let alone married. At the very least, it's not common. "Are you offering? I'm hungry..." The but doesn't come, but Charcoal looks torn. On one hand, she knows that it wouldn't be right to "feed" off of Miranda if she's not in her right state of mind. On the other hand, if Miranda's not in her right state of mind, then the "feeding" won't count against her, and Charcoal's already damned, so it doesn't matter if she does evil.
Sekhmet's been training her well in being responsible with her condition.

Neither of them seem to be thinking about it, but it may not be wise to feed Miranda's latent succubus aspect while she's vulnerable.

Kothar looks skeptically at the strange devices. He recognizes bandages, although the material looks bizarre. Everything else looks like nothing even related to healing. "That useful. More healing good." They're still no closer to shutting down the forge though.."We keep moving."

[Forsaken Cathedral]

"Offer- no, of... of course not!" Miranda protests, perhaps just a bit too strongly. "I just... well, it just occurred to me that we didn't actually know each other that well, that's all. I've seen you around the palace every now and then, but I don't think we've ever just... sat down and talked." She turns and continues to chip away at the wall, crouching a bit further so she isn't sticking out quite so prominently in Charcoal's field of view. "And we might as well, right? We've got... well, a long time between now and hitting the surface. Featureless grey-white rocks are going to get really old, really fast. We're going to go crazy down here if we don't have something to keep our minds occupied. The last thing we're going to want to be down here is just... kind of alone with our thoughts."

And with Charcoal's admission of being hungry, there's a legitimate reason to worry about what "thoughts" might entail for her.

"...So do you have any sort of family down there at all?" She asks, revising the subject in what she hopes is a less suggestive way. "I mean, if you guys don't really do the whole 'committed relationship' thing, and you don't really have kids, then..." She bobs her head to the side as she weighs out how to phrase this, and finds her brain going back to the original context all too quickly.

Ew.

[Dysphotic Swamp]

It definitely doesn't LOOK like they were lost.

They've got all sorts of things that you would expect someone who was prepared would have with them. But maybe they just weren't prepared for drippy oozes that turn people into zombies. Because, let's be frank here, no one is going to be prepared for that sort of thing unless they were aware of it ahead of time. We're going to the swamp, did you remember the zombifying ooze repellent?

"Maybe? I dunno, do people usually bring ribbon flags when they're doing regular camping?" Khannie inquires. Maybe they do? She hasn't been camping that many times. Obviously going to Glog doesn't count.

Anywho!

Khannie nods and pulls on the straps whilst Seraphina kneels on it! Once they're sure that their sled will work fine Khannie says, "Hang on Imma do something but it's gunna look weird."

And then she does something that looks weird.

From the vantage point of anyone looking on nothing weird happens. Seraphina and Khannie are just sitting there fiddling with the sled still.

From the vantage point within the area of Khannie's hallucinatory terrain Seraphina will have a good view of all nine of Khannie's tails lighting up with foxfire as shadows weave into an approximation of their surroundings whilst shrouding the three of them from prying senses. So while it LOOKS like they aren't moving they'll be able to covertly slip away!

Also if anything comes slithering into the hallucinatory terrain it'll warp into a blinding blizzard that'll numb and disorient pretty hard. A trap!

This is all a pretty fancy illusion and Khannie has to allow that other Seraphina phantom to vanish in order to maintain it. She'll help pull the half orc lady onto the sled and then it'll be time to go! Khannie can probably tug the sled around pretty easily. Having four feet and being pretty strong can help with that kind of task!

[Neon Forest]

"Yeah it'll help. I use a lotta these things,"
Khannie says as she finishes looting the supply crate. Usually not on herself. But sometimes! The injector cartridges are pretty handy if she gets banged up. Pokemon are notoriously resilient and usually they just hit a point where they're too exhausted to fight anymore. Cutting the exhaustion with potions is definitely the way to go.

"That blue thingy up there looks important; it's got tubes and stuff coming out of it,"
Khannie says, pointing up at the object in question. "How good are you at climbing?"

Good question!

Because there's no obvious access point for the thing. They'll have to scale the metal and grass walls and platforms to get up there.

"Shut the fuck up, I'm trying to do something here," the red bot interrupts, pivoting back to the false TARBot.

He starts moving again, fast enough to outpace the replica's crawling. When he's quite close, he crouches down and reaches out, trying to grab TARBot by his ankles.

"Fearsome, hm? Trying to flatter your way back into my good graces," says Tsumi. A grim smile flares onto her face for a brief instant. "I don't know that I enjoy real fighting... a good spar here and there. But I'm good enough at it. I even hire out for work sometimes." She shrugs. "I keep rubbish out of here myself so I don't need to pay a bouncer."

"Why do you ask me that?"

"Since I have a 'date' in mind if you don't mind doing something like that, for fun of course." Dena grins. "The two of us against a couple I happen to know. It'll be a blast." And she couldn't wait to see Kirk's expression when she told him about this idea considering who she would be pairing him up with...

"When I was alive, I did," Charcoal answers, "But after what happened, everything from then is a blur. I'm pretty sure I had a kid, but I don't know what they looked like, if they were a boy or a girl, or even if I was the mother or the father." Most succubi would have a clearer memory (Miranda probably recalls the painfully sharp memories Lizzie shared all too well) but due to her unusual origin, Charcoal's is lacking.

Kothar nods. "Very good." With his strength and training, he can easily climb a wall.
He grabs the first handhold he can find and pulls himself up with one arm, then reaches for the next one, using his feet to brace himself. This won't take long.

"...Huh. That's..." Miranda sets the chisel down for a moment. "...A lot to unpack. Wow. I... I'm sorry, I had no idea." She winces. "...How did that happen? Do you know? Actually..." She interrupts herself, resuming her chiseling at the wall. "...I'm not going to make you answer that. Not having your head clear isn't generally a pleasant experience. We can talk about something else if you prefer. Something more recent, like, say... what it is you do these days, when you aren't plumbing tombs to retrieve ancient artifacts containing bits of dead tyrants. Or I could talk about my life, if you want. We've got time."

And boy, do they. If they were digging any slower, they'd be putting rock back on the walls.

"Why do I get the sense you're up to some mischief?" Tsumi says, narrowing her eyes. She folds her scarred, wiry arms. "It doesn't sound like very much of a date. We'll have to set some ground rules. And I hope you have more of a plan than a few rounds, hm?" Tsumi beams fiercely. "I tend to get pretty hungry after a fair bout."

Yeah, Charcoal doesn't want to thinking about it either. "I do things for Her Majesty. I've been working for her since before she came to power, she trusts me to handle situations involving outsiders." Hence why she's here with Miranda. "You?"

[Neon Forest]

"Okay let's go!" Khannie replies.

And then it's time to climb.

Khannie... doesn't really move like a human does when it comes time to move about in a typically not-human sort of way. Sure a human can climb around but that isn't quite how Khannie moves. Like she explained before, she uses her illusions to disguise herself and that seems to be strained by this strenuous activity. She's moving more like an animal that has got substantial claws for digging into a surface than anything else.

But!

Soon enough they stand at the base of the huge orb full of blue fluid, various pipes and hoses stretching off to other parts of the factor. Khannie cups her hands over her eyes and peers against the glow.

"Okay yeah I can see another one of those key things floating in there," she says, glancing at the objects near the glass orb. "So there's like... those pillar things. And that over there might be a switch. And there are those different colored pictures on the walls and stuff so I think this is some sorta puzzle we've gotta figure out in order to get the key."

The images and the switches seem to match up in terms of colors but there are ALSO those colored stripes on the pipes along with the rotating sections the pipes hook into. This definitely looks like a tough one!
