MAP
Delmah Phor is a walled enclave created by immigrating drow from Faerun, encouraged to settle by a pact between their people and the Nexus government in a time of need. The drow provided supplies and manpower for the city's security, and in exchange gained a foothold in this crossroads of all worlds.
The buildings here are tall, seemingly hewn from solid rock, and cast deep shadows on the streets below. Varieties of overgrown mushrooms were cultivated along the edges of boulevards to create even more shade, some even sprouted from the sides of buildings forming semicircular awnings. Some of the buildings, mostly those of more conventional construction, were painted in muted earth tones. Rusty reds, muddy browns, a very rare splash of chalky blue. To normal eyes, the dark tones were hardly discernible in the shadows of the neighborhood, but under darkvision, they were truly vibrant works of art. Some buildings flew banners, most prominently the blue and gold of House Xar'Cha, but other sigils also had their place.
A heavy, high wall enclosed Delmah Phor, and it was constantly patrolled by uniformed drow moving from tower to tower. Gates leading into the drow enclave were also guarded by sharp-eyed young soldiers. They questioned the motives of anyone entering, but rarely stopped anyone without reason. Within, most buildings were residences. Most were multistory apartments holding many households. Towards the center of the enclave, the residences became larger. Here, Delmah Phor's most important buildings were also located
Some features of Delmah Phor include:
► SHOW SPOILER
The Market Street Likely the first place you'll visit in Delmah Phor, a wide boulevard running north-south between two gates in the walls, it's where most of the businesses in the enclave are located. It's usually choked with wagons and stalls, all doing a bustling trade. A large blacksmith shop with an open furnace anchors the north end of the street, while the south end featured a cafe, canopied by mushrooms, and more delicate goods being sold.
Central Square The most prominent feature of Delmah Phor, a large parade square emblazoned with a large mosaic of the spider in its web sigil of House Xar'Cha. On the north side is the Administrative Headquarters, where the day-to-day governing of the enclave takes place. Most noble families keep an office here. On the southern side of the square is Xar'Cha palace, where the members of House Xar'Cha and their retinues live. It's surrounded by an ornate garden and a wrought iron fence made to look like a spider's web.
Temple of LolthThe cultural center of the drow enclave was the large temple in the north west of Delmah Phor. Constructed by magic to resemble a massive stalagmite, the temple towers over the enclave. Across the street are two schools run by the temple, one for girls, the other for boys.
Public Gardens The south-west corner of Delmah Phor is taken up by parkland. A mix of surface and underdark plants grow here, giving shade and color and even sustenance. Three ponds filled with fish are bordered by paths. The more southwest you go, the deeper into forest you seem to go, though you should have hit the enclave's walls by now. Some enchantment extends the region, making it easy to get lost in.
Slums An underdeveloped area, mostly still broken buildings, on the west side of the enclave. Here, the poorest and the outcasts live. It's a dangerous place to go alone, but its better for a drow than living outside the walls of Delmah Phor.
Arts District North of the slums, near the temple gate, if the amphitheater which hosts plays, gladiatorial bouts, and other such entertainment enjoyed by the drow. Next door is a Ladies Club known as Shelob's Den.
